Brake switch failures are a common problem on Hondas of this vintage. If your Honda won’t come out of park then you might have a brake light switch problem. You might also have an ABS/TCS light on. It’s an easy diagnosis as well as fix. You don’t even need any tools other than a scan tool to pull codes if you have any. Just make sure you install and adjust it properly. Do that, and you’ll be back on the road in no time.

I love this car. Mine is fully sorted and a great daily driver. I’ll keep this in mind when I get stranded someday.
Eric I would also replace the white pad stopper, they have been known to fail from age with dry rot.
So my 2006 Accord is having issues where the brake lights intermittently come on at 50% brightness. It appears to be the brake light switch failing but I'm not 100% sure. I've seen many Accords (06-07) MDXs TLs or basically any Honda with LED brake lights from the 2005-2010 era do this. Just wondering if you, Eric, or anyone else here may know what I'm talking about.
BTW. No error codes or failure to shift from park. Just dim brake lights like every other time I hit the pedal.
I have the same issue with my 2000 rl and I keep replacing the 20amp fuse when the brake lights stop working and the shifter gets stuck in parking.
The panel under the driver or passengers?
thank you for helping the acura work properly, I have another problem with the lack of power supply for the solenoid valves at the gearbox, it works only at 3000 revolutions and the lack of gears 4 and 5, I think it's a problem on the electrical side, where should I start? I am asking for help priv e-mail elektronikostroda@wp.pl
erick please help me my acura mdx 2003 is burning the fuse number 20 and the stop light does not turn on and the lever is stuck
This dude Channel come a long way I remember watching his channel when he only have a few thousand subscribers… this guy seem to be very humble and always been helpful.. people like this due don't exist in large numbers in the world today.
My acura Rl 06 sh awd light on and engine light for o2 sensor idk what wrong
I love that this issue affect 1989 civic hatches all the way up to 2009 $50K RL's
Hey, i have brake lights on my 2000 Saber, but sometimes i's stuck in park. Would the brake switch be the problem ?
where can i buy that scanner and how much is it?
Hi Eric love all your videos. I am thinking of buying one of these. What is your opinion on the reliability of this car, especially the unique components. Here in the UK used spares are almost non existent, only 400/year sold for 4 years only. Thanks in advance
Just bought a used 2005 RL, been a nightmare so far. Just got code p0722. Transmission speed sensor.. great
Thank you so much Eric I put my light switch on wrong and was going mad then I saw your video and got it right the second time I like that your very specific on how to do the job right
Please help! I have a 2002 Acura 3.2 CL I replaces the brake light switch because the brake lights were not coming on and my car was stuck in park HOWEVER it’s still not working….any suggestions on what else it might be?
I have the same issue with my 07 TL but my horn also isn't working i have a feeling it's a fuse so I'm just gonna replace both the switch and fuse but just wondering why my fuse would blow out..
If there is any trick you know that can reset this or fix it I would really appreciate it. We have almost a foot of snow the SH AWD is working but no traction.
Hey I just did this repair and it solved the brake light issue and shiftlock but now my VSA light is on and won’t give me traction control
My car its a acura tl type s 2008 last week my shift lock i move with stick but i want to know what fuse i need check or what solenoid or sensor can i change for fix my proble maybe you know a solution thank so much and have a good day
Now i check that sensor its green so i think it has been remplaced so maybe the problem is on the sensor under shift?? Under the shift lever there are two sensors: one called solenoid assembly AT shift lock and another called, swich assembly parking pin and shift
What do you think?
Eric, thanks a million! My '06 RL brake lights were intermittently dim and bright (mostly dim). Took the switch out, and being the cheapskate I am, I took it apart. Turns out the contacts were pitted so I smothed them with an emory board and voila, that fixed it.
Thank you Eric. It is a good information. I would like, if you will have time to tel me how to replace subthrottle motor. I have ABS, VSA, lights on. My friend has a garage, and he checked with his tester and it told him that subthrottle motor failure. Can you please give me some info on it? Thank you.
My 2006 RL have issues about the vsa light is on and the rear sun shade is not working. So, I really don't know what to do about it. Any suggestions?
