Easy Wheel Bearing Replacement

Here is a short video showing how to easily replace a front wheel bearing without a press or slide hammer. In my view, this is the easiest way to replace a wheel bearing.

This video features a 2003 Honda Pilot, but the procedure will work for most pressed in wheel bearing assemblies.

Below are links to the tools used. FYI, you can often rent a Hub Grappler from your local auto parts store. Not sure if they would have the Quick Race tool though.

Thank you for watching!

  1. Hey Eric nice to see you back.
That quick race tool is neat. Use of heat on the inner race is really smart made that easy.
All went really easy, really quick. That outer race did not put up any fight coming out.
Hats off from a fellow tech and follower.

  2. Huh.. heat to expand the inner race and drop. Ive always followed how Eric did it in his past videos and cut a notch, then split it with a chisel. But this seems much easier. Will have to try it out next time

  3. Great surprise! Have you thought about YouTube shorts? At least temporarily? Might be a great way to keep viewers engaged and find new ones.

  4. Great to see your videos again Eric. You got the hub grappler at work again. I remember you using that on the Nissan in the fixing it forward series.

  5. Eric, great to hear from you! Great, quick video! Oreilly rents a similar type of tool for any of your fans that have a front wheel bearing to replace. Easiest ever! Hope you are staying clean.

  6. I once changed a wheel bearing using just a hammer and a big vise. First removed all the knuckle, got it into the vise tightly, and hammered all the stuff out of it. I thought I was going to need a big 5kg hammer, but the 1kg one did the job more than perfect. I drove in new parts the same way, making sure to not ruin the bearing in the process. And it worked really fine.

  7. It's hard going to Kings Island, passing your old shop, and not honking the horn – with the hopes that you might be filming a video and have to edit the beep out ! Stay dirty my friend.
