Factory Five Build Introduction

When viewer Malcolm Marsh reached out and asked me to build his Factory Five Cobra replica, I was a bit reluctant at first, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to do it.

Eventually we worked things out, and Malcolm brought me this Factory Five Mk II that was partially completed by its previous owner that passed away. To say I have my work cut out for me is something of an understatement. It’s one thing to build a kit car when it’s new, it’s something else entirely to take on the project after it was half completed and sitting in a garage for several years, but I’m up for the challenge, and looking forward to it.

I’m going to start by getting the body off the car and having a closer look at what I’m dealing with. After that, I’ll make a parts list and a plan, then, present it to Malcolm. Once I get that sorted, I’ll start making videos of the project.

I hope you stick around to see the progress as I bring this kit car to life. Stay tuned.

  1. Hey Eric, you helped me alot to build my SBF 347 stroker from the block up with no experience. It was part of my FFR MK4 build. It's awesome you decided to do this project. I have mine to liscence and titled. Waiting for body and paint this spring.

  2. definitely subscribed, hoping to one day buy my own ffr mk4 and build it from a 2013 5.0, looking fwd to this build series, keep it up Eric!!

  3. This is an exciting project! I love FF and a few years ago I bought and started an Exocet (which is a cheaper kit car built around a miata platform with an emphasis on lightening a miata and increasing rigidity). Now the Exocet has just been collecting dust, 1/2 done, but want to finish that and then race it a bit, sell, and then buy a factory five kit – probably either this one right here or the Hot Rod Ford kit, both look awesome. Very excited to see you make some progress with this thing – hopefully it spurs some motivation for me to finish my own stuff!

  4. Eric, do you still need a paint guy for this? I can ask my pro painter friend to see if he has capacity to take this on in his shop.

  5. Hi Eric. Come on, the A.C.Cobra is a is a sacred car model, and to me, a replica of that is blasphemy and a sad example of misunderstood dreams.
