This may seem elementary but it might interest some of you to know how the mechanics of a manual seat adjustment work. I had the seats out of my Subaru out while I was cleaning them and thought I would make a video on the operation of the seat track and this is the result. I hope you find the information useful and entertaining.

  1. What about the recliner, on my sentra works only the left hand side.
So,left side stuck on the track but the right side is loose. How that work. Thank you for your videos are very important and helpful.

  2. Thanks for this dude! Our seat got stuck and we thought it was a huge issue and instead the wire underneath just snapped! We got picture frame hanging wire to replace it and it works again thanks to this video, and we didn't even have to take our seat off the floor!

  3. Anyone know why a manual Buick seat will not recline back? It’s stuck straight up. Seat has been removed and oiled and still nothing.

  4. Thanks man. I’m having issues with my non powered 97 Maxima drivers seat. Stuck all the way back. It’s a five speed so I’ve got to get closer. I was trying to feel my way under there for the cable. No luck. Lots of clicking but almost no movement. I’ll try again tomorrow. Thanks for the view!

  5. Fitment was very good• allmy.tips/SeatBrackets?ㅂ had to bend one leg 1/8" to properly line up with bolt hole. Bolting them to seat sliders are a bit of a pain, took about an hour to bolt both brackets to the seats, but are of high quality and will buy another set for my next mustang

  6. My issue that on 2002 Chevy tracker is that the manual seat adjuster works but it won't lock after I have it adjusted and slides back and forth while I'm driving

  7. I'm not sure what's going on under my seat, the lever doesn't seem to have any affect no matter how hard I pull so I tied a bungee cable to the wire underneath and pull hard just to adjust my seat. it's a real pain in the ass

  8. This was a good video, I just needed a little more info. I'm trying to take the seats out of my car. The seat doesn't move forward enough for me to get to the back bolts. It slides on the track fine, but it stops at a certain point and I just need one more inch to get the clearance. So annoying.

  9. Question – I have a 1999 Toyota Tacoma truck. Base model. I want to raise the front of the seat about 1”. Any suggestions? Maybe remove the seat from the track and put in the necessary spacers?

  10. Was involved with the roll-forming fabrication of hundreds of thousands (if not literally millions) of upper and lower seat track channels over the course of my time spent in an automobile hardware manufacturing plant. Later editions of the seat tracks (upper & lower channels) were pre-notched prior to the roll forming process. Once these pre-notched tracks were die-cut-to-length they were sent to a phosphate coating tank then directly to the seat adjuster assembly process line. Conservatively, my experience in the manufacture of automotive components comprises at least twenty-five years.

Once, we sought to estimate the number of raw channels attributed to one design which was finalized in the mid-1960s and saw service in vehicles through 1997. We came up with a number in the tens of millions (accounting for bench and bucket seating). This was only for the manual versions and there were, of course, many hundreds of thousands of electric seat adjuster assemblies fabbed as well. The raw material came in at the receiving bay and through the oversight of engineers, toolmakers, managers, troubleshooters and watchful production techs the finished product was shipped to dozens of vehicle assembly plants across the country. It was really something to witness when all of the processes were working in harmony to get product to their appointed locations on time.

  11. I have a Toyota RAV4 and the garage garage attendant jammed my seat can’t move forward and backwards do I need to remove the heat how do I fix the adjustment pole help pls

  12. Is there like a universal manually adjusted seat? My electric adjustment is going out, and that shit is just dumb. Like who came up with that? Its not that hard to move a seat

  13. That is the stupidest fucking set up how fucking stupid is that my 2000 trans am seat is stuck I can't take my wife anywhere because of this fucking dumb fucking shit ass fucking seat how the fuck all the people who went to engineering school only to come up with this dumb fucking idea I just can't fucking believe this

  14. Hey, Eric. I have a VW Jetta 2000. And the cable that goes from the handle broke off somewhere inside the mechanism. And i was wondering if you are aware of any ways i can still move the seat, cause it broke off when i pushed the seat all the way forward fixing something in the backseats. And because the seat is all the way forward, i cant even enter the car.

    Thanks

  15. I have a 2001 dodge, maxi van 3500. the passenger seat back release lever broke off the mechanism with a one inch cylindrical piece of metal attached. how can this be repaired?

  16. i have a 98 acura cl. passenger seat is off track and im really thinkin about just going in with a socket and seeing if i can put back on track myself

  17. i have a 98 acura cl. passenger seat is off track and im really thinkin about just going in with a socket and seeing if i can put back on track myself

  18. do you know the name of the "D end" for Honda accord 4 door sedan. the parts that locks the seat from moving back and forth.

  19. Can you show me how to repair/fix a seat belt problem?
''the problem is that both the driver and passenger seat belt won't retract properly when ever i release it from the buckle.''

  20. My seat wont go into the position i want it to go, the cable is broken. can i use hanger wire to replace it? what do you suggest? ..BTW, GREAT VIDEOS!! Keep it up!

  21. I like that as Eric is messing with his car he realizes he has a moment to teach even something that could seem so mundane in the normal circumstance. Eric is that teacher at school that made it all worth it.

  22. i got a seat that is STUCK all the way back. cant move it forward no matter how hard i try, or what i do. this may help me! i really hope it does. i have not been able to get passengers in my rear passenger seat for a couple years now because it is stuck way back.

  23. Eric, you wouldn't have any insight on manual Honda seat tracks that produce a small clunk when lateral force is applied to it (taking corners). Had a 90 Integra, 92 Accord and my 2003 Accord all do this. It's livable just annoying. Thanks again.

  24. What would you recommend to the customer? Do they need to replace the entire track with a new wire, or suggest a larger labor rate to rig up something to make the far side track release?

This is what I'm more curious on, is how to maximize my time and get the most labor hours possible and not spend my time rigging something up for little pay when I could just replace a piece in 5 minutes.
