How To Change Honda Manual Transmission Fluid -EricTheCarGuy

Changing Honda manual transmission fluid is not a difficult task in my opinion. I think the hardest part is figuring out how to fill the transmission. The most important take away however is using the correct fluid, Honda manual or GM Syncromesh fluid. In my experience using other fluids can cause shifting issues or worse bearing issues. This video will take you through the steps I use when changing Honda manual transmission fluid. I hope it helps you get the job done. Here are some links you might find useful.

  1. I think thats the reverse gear switch for the rear reverse lights and a deep 24mm socket and 8 inch extension get it done but I could be wrong

  2. Pennzoil Synchromesh should work as well. Pennzoil states that it works for GM and Chrysler on their bottles as a replacement so I would imagine it works On Hondas as well. Let me know if I am a lyin'.😁

  3. Any Motorcycle 5w30 will work!!! because most of motorcycle use wet clutch in crank case. It will include same additives like MTF!!! Ive tested for 6 years had no issue.

  4. Why can’t the new fluid go through the top 3/8 drive nut hole that was removed for air flow? Is it so you know how much trans fluid was replaced going through the filler hole 17mm

  5. HELLO- ive a 98 Accord EX with the 5 speed. 196k on it. Shifts decent. But not like the legendary honda butter gear box ive always heard about. Do you suppose new HG MTF will improve this shift feel? ANYONE?

  6. I live in Brazil I have a 1994 lx accord, the car manual asks for 20w40 oil, even for an engine, does not specify original oil

  7. Thank you! I was about to use honda 10w40 motorcycle oil. Glad i watched your video b4 gitten r done!

  8. Hey Eric i have a problem, i was doing transmission fluid change i atached a copper 90 degree fitting but somehow that copper fitting detached from the rubber hose i was using and went inside the fill hole.. i could still feel the copper fitting but as i was trying to get it out from the fill hole it went more dwn, do i have to take the whole transmission apart?? An answer will really be apreciated eric

  9. My car is a pain to fill. The fill level is about a half inch below the fill bolt on my 2005 mustang gt but I’ve realized that if I jack the front up a little bit I can then just fill it up until it pours out then when I lower the car. It’s about a half inch below the fill bolt. I have no idea why ford did this on their 05 to 10 mustang gt manuals

  10. When I took Off the fill bolt on my manual transmission is hiss as if air was either rushing out or in. Is that normal?

  11. Thanks Eric! I really appreciate the time & effort you put into making these videos. I have 2 Honda's; a 1992 Accord & a 1992 Civic. They are each over 223,000 miles and I really want to keep them going. Your videos are the go to I use to help me do just that.

  12. Eric, When assembling a manual transmission from a d series, everything spins freely, even when the snap ring is installed. However, when I tighten the 12mm housing bolts I cannot spin the input shaft with my hand. Help! What do I need to do?
