Here’s another one from the ‘basics’ series. Many times when confronted with a no start or performance problem you need to check fuel pressure. This is a helpful guide on how to go about that process. Many times a fuel pressure gauge can be rented from your local auto parts store or tool rental outlet. If you went to purchase a gauge they vary in price greatly. The biggest concern is the adapters used to tie into the different fuel systems you’ll encounter. Outside of that the simple tests shown in this video can help walk you through how to check and interpret fuel pressure readings.

With all the sensors on cars you would think that fuel pressure would be a normal

When I step on the gas the reading goes down about 2 to 3 psi it don't go up is that a fuel pump issue?
be great if you could do another video for direct fuel injection engines fuel pressure testing and especially checking change in pressure at idle to open throttle – and checking inlet manifold pressures

Question. Can you have a zero at the gauge with no start. I tried several times but yes crank no start and no movement at the gauge at all. I would think there should be some pressure

And some replace their fuel pressure regulators with adjustable ones that all have schrader valves.

As I learned from ETCG in a previous video, look around your injectors for clean, shiny spots. Gas is a solvent, so a leaky injector would cause them. The only video I've found where the guy just didn't happen to have a Schrader valve. This cat's the best of the best.
What's typical pressure at the fuel rail? I just used a bike-tire pressure gauge on a Mini and got 60 PSI.

Hey Eric. I have a 1989 ford e150 econoline van with 5.0L motor. When I start it, it runs for a couple seconds really good then it starts running really rough. I'm thanking its just running with the gas that sprayed in it at the start of the key. Thanking it might not be getting fuel. Ive replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, iac valve, tps sensor, maf sensor, both temp sensors, the intake air flow sensor. All this and it still does the same thang. Thanking it might be fuel pressure regulator or egr valve or even the catalytic converter. Any help would be appreciated. It use to run really good but gradually started running rough. it wont stay running. If you push on the gas it just bogs down even more like it isnt getting gas. If I take the hose off the fuel pressure regulator theres no leaking, when the van is running. Theres no black smoke or smell like fuel or eggs.

Allow me to add that your #11 adapter push button also works to measure fuel Flow according to OEM specs, the way it works is that your fuel pump (while is pumping with the vehicle on) should be able to retain a specific fuel pressure while is being drained, and it should fill a specific amount of fuel In a Marked container within a specific amount of time
I have one but it to big to fit on my ford 95 f150 shrader valve is there an adapter I can get to fit and where.
Some cars return to zero though depending on the setup on fuel rails
