I had the privilege of visiting Airtex, and while I was there I spoke with Shane Neuman about diagnosing a faulty fuel pump. In this video we go over the basic steps of diagnosing a faulty fuel pump. So if your vehicle isn’t starting and you suspect a fuel pump problem, here are some steps to follow to confirm your suspicions. Another ‘quick’ test is to bang on the fuel tank and then try and start the engine. Sometimes this works, just don’t bang too hard, you could damage something.

Need help! When I turn the key, I hear a click in the tank but not the normal hum/buzz when the fuel pump turns on. Fuse and relay are good. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge… If I disconnect the fuel line from the filter on the tank side and turn my key, is it reasonable to assume that fuel will shoot out if the pump is working?

1 check fuse
2 check relay
3 cycle and check for fuel at valve
4 spray fuel into intake.
If it runs and dies and no fuel in Schrader valve…. Pump is bad
Enjoyed video. If you are open for questions I have a 2015 Ford Edge sel that is cold on drivers side & hot on passenger side every thing else works right. Have tried 2014 reset can’t find anything on the 2015. Hope you could answer. Ford sync doesn’t work either. Thanks much Bernie Poole

Will a non functioning fuel pump somehow prevent coil pack from firing as well ? For instance i tried spraying starting fluid in throttle body but still will not start. So i wandering if the computer detects no fuel and disables firing. So spraying starting fluid is in vain? Changed out cam and crank sensors, new plugs, 3 different new coil packs, charged battery, jumped battery, switched battery out, all fuses good, all relays clicking, replaced coilpack pigtail twice, new remote batteries, reset remote, rebuilt computer, hard reset computer. I dont think it has an immobilizer. This all started after bleeding all brakes ( with engine off) after front left caliper replaced and all new front pads. Had test drove, cut off at gas pump after gasing up, restarted drove 1 mile back home. after brake work but before bleeding brakes

What does it mean to "cycle the key"
So my fuel pump doesn’t make any buzzing noise or anything but I check the fuse and it was blown and I put a new n blewed it up right away so I put a new fuses two more times and it all got burnt right away but the engine crank but no fuel . Please help for a 1996 Nissan d21

The only thing slightly differently.. the steps are good, but if a relay clicks it doesn't necessarily mean that it is "good", next step to verify it is good, so you should switch the relay with one next to is that is the same

I have a problem with the seat Ibiza 2005 1.4 I took out the battery to charge it and when I put it back in and put the key in the ON position it makes a noise inside the dashboard as if a relay opens and closes quickly like a percussion drill and when I turn the starter it turns normally but does not move forward. I checked and found the relay that made the noise I attach it (191 906 383c) 167this relay probably supplies the petrol pump and when I disconnect the petrol pump the noise stops and I measure the voltage and it is about 12 volts while it is on the battery.5 volts and when I put a load lamp instead of the pump, the noise in the relay starts to fight and the voltage drops to 3 volts, maybe someone can help to know where the pump relay is supplied from to control its supply. The relay I have opened is clean and works with a separate power supply. When I put a light bulb in the base where Benny the relay in place of the Coil from the relay the light turns on and has a low voltage of 5 volts and when I put it between the relay and the chassis it lights up normally ((thimios1953@gmail.com))

Mazda mpv 2007.. keeps cutting off.
We have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 That the fuel pump went out and we replaced it along with the level. It ran for a while and quit again. We checked the fuel relay and it was bad so we replaced the fuse box to replace the bad relay. Got it back together and did the hard reset and it still cranks won't start. We have no fuel to the engine and we are not hearing the fuel pump kicking on any ideal what's going on with it? not sure what to try next
