  1. Speed in general is not a good measurement to "save gas". The RPMs are the primary concern. Just throwing out some arbitrary numbers here but you can go say 70 mph in 5th gear at 3500 RPM or 65 in 4th at 4000 RPM. In that case going 65 in 4th will be worse on gas than 70 in 5th. So keep the RPM's low and gas will generally be saved, just don't go so low that it's causing extensive stress on the drivetrain.

  2. Depends on how you drive it. In some cases a V8 is even more efficient than a smaller engine. For city driving you have a valid point. For highway driving, a larger engine barely working is more efficient than a smaller engine working hard.

  3. -Don't feather the throttle.
    -Drive standard shift. Less power needs to be made by the engine for the same propulsion due to lack of torque converter.
    -Choose the highest gear for your speed and power band. This varies by car, so experiment.
    -Don't try to accelerate in high gear. It's actually more efficient to downshift, accelerate quicker, and upshift again.
    -Engine brake when possible.
    -Stop the car when idling at a light. Use the other lights to time restarts.

  4. Also, always run 89. Cars were meant to run on 89. Even though the timing adjusts for the lower grade, it still doesn't run as good as 89. Just saying.

  5. I'm heaving this same issue. It usually starts and we drive 69 miles. It's the start back up that doesn't work. It's usually the warmer days it does this more. It will always start the next day. The pump I hear turn on. What can I check next??? I was FBI king the fuel pressure regulator is what's wrong. Is there a way to check that out? I have a 1997 chevy Tahoe 4door 5.7L please help

  6. I've heard platinum spark plugs actually last longer than iridium tipped ones, Iridium is less resistance but platinum holds up longer

  8. Not so sure about that, there's an Mythbusters episode where they test this. Air resistance really affects fuel efficency. Check that episode!

  9. You're making it more complicated than it should be. Look it up. Motor vehicles are designed to be most efficient at 55 mph, not 45, 35, or 25.
