The windshield on my 2004 Honda Element has been cracked for years. After last winter the crack had reached half way across and I decided it was time to do something about it. It just so happens Kyle Kiss, son of Rich Kiss of Kiss auto glass, is a fan of my show. He stopped by the shop one day with his dad and I asked if they would be interested in making a video about replacing the windshield on my Element. The rest is in the video.
I know a little about replacing windshields, Rich knows a LOT. I learned quite a bit making this video. I hope you do too.

This “professional” really just primed over the rust without treating it at all smh. Even though he primed over it that doesn’t do anything unless you remove it first lol. He should have used a wire brush to get rid of it. Guarantee that rust is at least twice as big by now and most likely formed a hole
I’m considering doing it myself if I buy the truck I’m looking at, depends on how much I’d save buying the tools and stuff rather than just paying Safelite and saving the hassle and risk. The skill is definitely valuable though. The main needs on it are a windshield and transmission but it’s a V8 which is a steal at $500. If I can rebuild the transmission myself instead of buying a new one that’s a ton of money saved and it’s not that old at being a ‘94.

I just had my new windshield installed by dealership, it’s Pilkington EZ cool plus but I noticed that it wasn’t centered. It pushed more towards the driver side. The right side has 5mm difference than the left side. Should I be concerned? It’s for RAM 1500. Thank you.

I cover your rust spot up so this will help not to get in any further – is the biggest bullshit I have EVER heard about fighting rust XDXDXD This is how rust prevention works people, just cover it up

Never point a sharp tool at your body and then proceed pull toward yourself . And always use appropriate PPE when using the primers especially toxic on skin and lungs! If you spill any of that primer on any surface besides the pinch weld , well that item is destroyed or stained for life ! !!
This guys destroyed his A pillar molding clips. "Guaranteed"!!! You just don't grab the A Pilar trim like that on a Honda Element and jerk them off. If you notice at the 3:16 minute mark at the top passenger corner of the windshield where he ripped the A pillar trim off, there is a white clip still stuck in the other clip. That white clip actually goes inside the trim piece he pulled off in two little plastic slots. Those white clips actually clip inside the black facia A pillar cover. And from many years of experience doing auto glass those black trim pieces are defiantly broke where the white clips go into them. Also this guy doesn't really know the science behind urethane. ALL Urethanes cures by the humidity in the air. Not the heat or the cold. Some Urethanes just have different drying agents in them to speed up the curing process most likely baby powder or talcum powder.

I have been working for Auto Glass Now for 3 days so far and i love it. I have my moments where I get irritated but at the end of the day when im done. I leave knowing I did a great job. Take your time. Absolutely always ask questions. Especially being the new guy. If you make a mistake do not ignore it. Go back and fix it. Good luck and god bless you ❤😇

Is there any way to 'soften' so to speak? in order to make it easier to remove 15-20+ yr old urethane?
This guy is a weapon so much bad info. There are glass certification courses and there is procedures for every manufacture on proper glass removal and install. YOU DON"T CALL YOUR BUDDY OR LEARN THRU TRIAL AND ERROR

there is no way in hell I would let this guy install my windshield. that was a start to finish how NOT to install a windshield.
How would the windshield be replaced if it has front facing cameras for autonomous braking and pedestrian detection?
I am referring to all the newer(2018 model or newer) Toyota/Honda sedans that come with this technology as standard equipment.
I just got mines done making noise and they didn't put tape on. Mines
As a glass tech. I just want to say he did a good job but still did not do everything correctly. First was using the long knife to trim the excess urethane on the sides of the windshield before running the cold knife down it, although it does make it easier. It causes a deep gouge in the metal beneath it. Second was trimming the urethane before cleaning, you're supposed to clean the pinch welds before you trim the urethane. Which helps eliminate foreign chemicals which may cause adhesion problems. Third was the rust, the rust should have been cleaned down to bare metal, before being primed. Priming over the rust does not stop it. which will still eventually cause the windshield to leak. Speaking of the primer takes me to the fourth problem, which is the daubers he uses to apply the primer, 1 should only be used once and never dip twice into it. again causing cross-contamination what could ruin the primer. Now moving on to the "running of the urethane" you never want to seem in the middle of the glass at the top. you want to do one continuous bead when possible however you can't do it on every car. it is very easy. Less seems is less areas for possible leaks. Then using what's called a "pojo" you're supposed to smooth out your seams and make sure there are no gaps and or bubbles in the urethane before setting the glass. Other then that. Good job.

… and that's why I won't do this myself. Easier to replace an iPhone screen than replace a car windshield.
No ppe, PRIMING OVER RUST without treating it first, is the worst you can do while installing a new windshield, didn’t protect the vehicle using sharp tools. And people call him a pro.
