How To Properly Repair a Tire

There are a few different methods you can use for tire repair. The method I show in this video is considered the ‘best possible tire repair’. This method is also known as the “Tire Plug/Patch Repair”.

**Be sure to check with your tire manufacture to see what repairs are acceptable with their products.

  1. Your supposed to use drill bit to go from inside and outside a few times so that the wiring tire can level out. You missed a few steps. I'm a tech also fyi.

  2. Well done. Thanks! I just had my tire repaired at a shop and it looks like they used this method but I noticed a little rubber nub sticking out past the surface of the tire. Is that normal or should I cut it flat to the surface of the tire?

  3. Lol. That 100% ain't a tire patches I made. Our black gum has red poly instead of blue and our blue poly has grey gum instead. Also I hate the black gum. Shit is a nightmare. Super sticky and if you have too take apart a patch cause something the solvent we use it like bleeds some of the black color from it and it just get all over your hands. Nasty stuff.

  4. If it would ever take 10 minutes to get a tire fixed I would be a happy guy. I pick up nails all the time as I go to the dump every day sometimes 3 times a day.

  5. I bought a new tire as my hole was in the danger area only to find out with all wheel drives the new tire diameter would confuse computer so next get the tire shaved guess what nobody does tire shaving anymore.

  8. The mechanic at a busy tire shop told me most flats in the U.S. are the right rear. Reason stated was that more road debris is closer to the curb side where a nail or screw is run over by the front tire which kicks it airborne where it's then punctures the rear tire.

  10. I do plugs all the time im a truck driver ..i do waste management so nails is almost sure to get….myvguestiin is how to remove nails in too deep easier

  11. I've used beef jerky looking plugs for the past 25 years and haven't had any problems at all. Not to say I won't ever, but I'll keep doing them the way I do them. Dismount the tire? Pfft…hahah yeah right

    plug patches are cheap plug then patch
    plug patch is thin thin rubber a patch is made with fiber
    plug the tire then apply fiber patch
    the reason is you dont know how or where that tire is going 140 on highway for a 8 hr trip at plus 30
    or a guy hitting 250 km on a bike petend for the worst grand pa has a kid that likes to drift
    wish tire shop would stop saying that should be good no it is good

  14. eric this may be realistic for at a shop where there are tire machines. i work in a shop and at home. at the shop i have tire machines. and home and in the trunk of my car I do not . in my trunk i have a tire plug kit works grate to get you home and to a tire shop been doing it that way since I was 16 and im 55 now and I will keep doing that way

  15. I have a question, at 1:17 you mark the area where a tire could be repaired, is that still up to standard with tires repairs, because I have reading and told that the tires shouldnt be repaired on that area, instead only between the line that you have the nail. is that still true?
