I produced a video about this a few years back and honestly, it wasn’t as good as I would have hoped. Here’s a link.
Since then I’ve improved my skills and my tools and I believe I have a much better video for you as a result. As they say however, practice makes perfect. So if you want to get good at soldering, get yourself some 60/40 solder, a good soldering iron, and some scrap wire you can practice with. Before you know it, you’ll be an expert.

Re soldering iron temperature…
DON'T automatically set to hottest.
Unless you really need all that heat it'll just burn your insulation quicker and typically gives worse joints.
About 350°C is more than enough for most solders and most jobs – there are exceptions, but most work doesn't need excessive heat.

Tip: Its also recommended to put a very small amount of a dielectric grease (silicone) on the joint after having completed the soldering and before putting the shrinktube on. This helps to prevent corrosion and helps but does not (for ever) prevent moisture getting to the soldiered joint
Eric you were saying one solder was better that another, I have heard that lead free solder is sometimes harder to work with. I like the mini helping hands you made nice touch. Great video. Thanks for the tips and instruction
The Ed China method seems sketchy. Should give a tug and see how strong the connection is. The flux also cleans the metal for better bonding.

If you wanna work with lead free solder comfortably, you'll need a much more powerful soldering iron. One of those iron that use cartridge tips (Hakko FM203 etc), high frequency induction irons (Quick 203 and 205 series) and the whole JBC lineup should work great.
Lead free takes longer to heat up so it's harder to work with.
After many trials I found out only TWO critical Points – A very good/ branded Solder 60/40+1.8% flux with low melting point of 200C and a reliable temperature controled Iron up to 350C works well. And practice practice

i have to try this with 30ga wire.. i got a bad connection.. i have to redo motor wires or try removing motor plug and solder straight to flight controller
The title of the video indicates or points to assume you have a ton of experience and knowledge on the subject, but no you don't know anything! So you just learned and think you can teach?
You need to use 3M silicone dielectric grease on top of the soldered joint before shrink tube!
The solder you were having trouble with is lead free. Lead free solder is harder to work with.
i have a crazy question i broke a bolt holds down the valve cover does anyone know if its possible to solder some type of metal nut to the broken bolt and i can then remove much like welding just seeing if that might be an option

Amazes me how few people who post these kinds of vids, don't bother to use flux on the wire. Makes me cringe. It makes all the difference….

Where is your real soldering iron? Every mechanic has a hundred old glow plugs laying around. Considering a momentary switch and a relay seems like a good idea though.
The problem was that the solder is lead free works less than lead solder
pinch off a small glob of rosin and rub onto the joint before adding heat…..it seems to make it get to temp in half the time as when you dont use rosin and it really pulls solder into the wires. i will never solder without rosin again!
