I get a lot of questions via email and over at the forum about the steps to take when you encounter a performance issue like my Subaru’s hesitation issue and I often feel like I sound like a broken record when I cover the basic steps that I cover when encountering a situation like that. My main point here is that if you have a performance problem and you’re going to throw parts at the problem start with the basics before you to off and start replacing sensors that you suspect are a problem, if you don’t have evidence of a faulty sensor then don’t start there start with the simple tune up items and check for vacuum leaks and air leaks as I’ve shown here and I believe you’ll have better results and save yourself some money in the process. In short the rule of KISS applies, Keep It Simple Stupid.

If you have questions about your own engine performance issues head over to my website and either ask the search function or ask the forum, we’d be happy to help.

  1. START WITH THE BASICS – THANK YOU SO MUCH !!! could not put off any longer the worsing hesitaion/engine performance on my 130K Elantra so i google ( EricTheCarGuy -hesitation). BOOM -this excellent video quickly tells me: hum, maybe I should change those plugs after 80k miles – problem solved! So from thinking maybe my Elantra finally gave up the ghost to pure joy (from getting passed/horned by gramma to being able to challenge hot rodders). Big fan for about 10 years now, you are the go-to-guy for us car DIY enthusiasts – THANKS A HUNDRED TIMES & 100 MORE TIMES IN THE FUTURE !!!!!

  2. I've watched a lot of your videos, but somehow never noticed the pony tail before this vid. My guess is member of a metal band as I don't see you owning any Michael Bolton laser discs

  3. Convert your car to water hy-brid system and experience a cleaner & smoother drive with more torque & power and performance.hho reduce exhaust carbon emission, improve fuel economy faster acceleration.HHO gas REMOVE CARBON DEPOSIT, fuel burn faster and completely. (lower the engine TEMPERATURE).
INCREASES ENGINE LIFE, ALSO INCREASES ENGINE OIL AND BATTERY LIFE. THIS POLLUTION CONTROLLED SYSTEM VERY GOOD FOR the environment. VERY LOW POWER CONSUMPTION. SYSTEM CONTROLLED BY THE IGNITION SWITCH.
EASY TO OPERATE, SAFER AND MORE RELIABLE.
    ACMEC HHO
    GOOD BYE.

  4. Can disel be used to engine flush in petrol cars.
Take 2.5 litres of Disel and mix 1/4 th of fresh engine oil and shake well. Empty old engine oil then put the prepared disel flush agent to the engine then idle engine for 3 minutes. Once again empty(flush) the disel+oil =gunk will be gushed. Change old oil filter and put the fresh 👌 engine oil and run the engine.
Hopes the above works as engine flush.

  5. I'm gearin' up to replace the rusted-out engine cradle (subframe) on my 2000 Honda CIvic EX.

I've seen you workin' on Accords and Civics, and I'd really appreciate a walkthrough.

  6. Had some shuddering the vehicle just stopped. Towed it home. Replace fuel pump, crankshaft sensor, starter..ran good for a 100 miles. Pressure was at about 52 psi. Started driving Then it started with the slow sputter until i throttle up. Replace plugs twice in 2 years, #7 and #5 was carbon build up and smell of fuel. Ughhh

  7. My audi a7 has developed a strange issue well….from stand still uphill it shudders a bit I press gas and it's ok going down is ok or level road is ok only uphill ..any ideas ???
