Solving ‘No Heat’ Problems -EricTheCarGuy

Solving ‘No Heat’ Problems is a video showing the steps to take if you don’t have heat in your vehicle. Many people come to me with this question and since my 93 Acura Vigor didn’t have good heat, I decided to take the opportunity to make a video on the diagnostic process I go through in order to solve this issue. So if you don’t have heat in your vehicle, follow the steps in this video and you will likely have it solved in no time.

  1. I have an 2008 honda crv I'm thinking blend door my issue. But I did replace thermostat to customer request. It was an headache.

  2. A/C works great. 1998 Acura 3.5RL. Heat runs AFTER car runs 20 minutes if temp control cranked to 90. When i turn the temp control down to 75 or 80 or lower, no heat. I actually smell vapors of some kind or steam. No leaks. Radiator to level and resivoir to level.

  3. I have a 2003 Acura cl the heater kicks on and blows hot air but turns off my guess is bad connector or the resistor anyone has ideas

  4. great videos, eric but you make it seem so easy to access the heater-ac core housing assembly- is there a way to do this without removing the dash because thats a major issue

  5. Hi Eric.
I have a heat problem on my 09 Accord LX. I get heat on passenger side, but not driver. This is what I've done so far.
    1) temp sensor seems to get into temp as I see it on the gauge.
    2) cabin air filter is ok
    3) coolant level is fine
    4) blend door is working fine
    5) mode select is working fine.
    6) I put my hand on the heater code inlet and outlet hoses and both are super hot with one being slightly hotter than the other, can't keep my hand on for more than a few secs.

Any ideas? I'm tempted to try a flush, but the hoses both get hot.

    Thanks for your help

  6. This video provides information, equal to expensive courses that are very time consuming, Eric, you are an American mechanics hero and superstar. Thank you!

  7. I changed my thermostat didn't get warm. I burped the system for almost an hour got a bit warm till I started driving. Came out ice cold. So I'm hoping it needs flushed. Not overheating or anything

  8. I have always taken the radiator cap off and watched to see if the coolant started to circulate in the radiator. If it doesn't start to circulate then pull the thermostat and test in one of the wife's old cooking pots to see if the thermostat opened at temperature. If not then it is a water pump. Haven't had to change one since I owned a 77 Knock on wood.

  9. Thanks for this great  video!! But I have  a question.. my car  heater will stop working if i drive the car!! What do you think  is the problem? It's  BMW 2007 328i

    Thank you again!

  10. Hi I own the 2011 Toyota RAV4 and the problem is in winter the driver's side air is hot but the passenger side is cool. can you help me. Thanks

  11. Ever hear of having to change 3 t-stats in less than 2 yrs? Lol
    I have a 09 Pontiac Wave G3(like a Chevy Aveo)
Orig stuck open, replaced it, aftermarket lasted about a year and a bit, it stuck open, replaced it with another about a month ago, now i have no heat again! Both heater hoses are warm, but temp gauge stays at minimum, luke warm heat…
Cabt for the lude of me figure out why i have these issues.. and they are about $150 per t-stat…
This sucks! And i get a P0128 code when thus happens

  12. Hey Eric love all your videos. Had no heat and engine wasn't getting up to Operating Temperature . I replaced Coolant temperature Sensor and that fixed the problem. If possible could you add it to your no heat videos. It worked for me and hopefully it can help
Somone else. Thanks for all your videos much appreciated Best to You and Yours. 🇺🇸👍🏻👋🏻

  13. hi Eric. thanks for informative video. I verified all you said but I still don't have hot air on 06 Odyssey. My odyssey has air flow and temp gauge indicates that coolant is hot but just lukewarm air coming out of vent. It was hot before. you think what is wrong. thanks

  14. Hello Eric. I would like to ask a question my heater vent. When I turn on the heater or a/c I get air on my foot and face when its on defogger (front). please help with this leak fix

  15. @ericthecarguy
I have a question for you. I have a 1992 ford ranger with the 2.3 4 cylinder. it has a new waterpump, new thermostat (im 100% positive it works, did the water test) new fan clutch, fresh coolant, the heater core is clean and flowing, and the radiator is clean, new temp sensor and temp sending unit, ive bleed the cooling system multiple times, nee radiator cap, and the system does hold pressure.
i have no heat, and the engine will not get up to operating temp. it stays hovering right above the "C"
ive even went as far as blocking the entire radiator off with cardboard. still nothing. blend door seems to be working (cable operated, i can hear it move)
im at a loss here. any help is appreciated

  16. Thanks, this is a real mechanic! in this day and age "diagnostic" is plug in obd2 port and scan!! Thank agaiN!

  17. If I am correct, you could use this tool (the flir) to find short circuiting, right? Could you make a video on that?

  18. what would a tell sign be for blown head gasket causing a no heat situation ? temp gauge is showing hot but no heat coming through…

  19. what would a tell sign be for blown head gasket causing a no heat situation ? temp gauge is showing hot but no heat coming through…

  20. How bout when the heater works ONLY while driving, but not at IDLE…When it is at IDLE, it stops blowing hot air, and starts blowing COLD air………However, once you start moving again, the cool turns BACK into hot…..I even tried INITIALLY starting the van and letting it sit for over 10 minutes, but was still blowing very cold, BUT once I started down the road, it rapidly became hot…..

  21. My car won't blown heater while on idle or stop signs its only blows cold air but once I accelerate I feel heat air coming through just only when I accelerate and this just started like two days now…after having my intake manifold gasket done by the Toyota dealer(I have 2008 Toyota corolla)what do you suggest sir..? any help would be highly appreciated

  22. hi Eric my 2003 explorer gets heat but it comes out of the wrong vents (always by my feet). but when I switch it over to cold air it comes out of the vents I want it to. what would you recomend. I appreciate your time and thanks for all of your videos.

  23. i think my vehicle may be experiencing a different problem. i have heat and a/c that works, but my setting 3 does not blow any air whatsoever and my floorboard heat doesn't blow at all no matter the setting and i feel my rear defroster is working but not as well as the front defroster. what could be causing this because it sucks having no floorboard heat in the winter lol

  24. As soon as I read the thread title, I already knew pretty much what the problem was. I've worked on alot of vehicles over the years that didn't have heat…..only one was a bad heater core, the others were always stuck open thermostats.

  25. @EricTheCarGuy Hey Eric, I'm having a problem with no heat in a 2005 Honda Element LX. I checked the heater hoses. The heater core's inlet hose was warm, not really hot. The outlet hose was cold, lukewarm. I did a back flush, suspecting a clogged heater core and clean coolant came out so it wasn't clogged. I then suspected a faulty heater control valve, but that wasn't it. I'm wondering if it is a stuck open thermostat. I'm not certain because the temperature gauge is almost in the middle. I do feel like the engine could be a little bit warmer. Could it be possible that the thermostat is stuck slightly open? And does the Element have a air bleeder valve?

  26. how about losing coolant with no leaks, evertime i drive my car and park it i can smell coolant outside but no leak , i check all of the hoses and nothing yet , it been cold in nj so i havnt had a chance to look at it

  27. I've owned two SAAB 900s. I replaced the thermostats on both (model years '94 and '97). It was a perfect time to flush the coolant system as well 🙂
