The Basics of Car Audio Speaker Replacement -EricTheCarGuy

I’ve done a lot of work to my 1993 Acura Vigor lately and I’ve been driving it a lot more. One thing I began to notice was that the stereo just didn’t sound all that great. I suspected blown speakers. I pulled one of the door cards and found out my suspicions were correct. So I measured both the front and rear speakers and went on the hunt for some replacements. I made a video of the installation and included some basic tips that I believe will work for most vehicles. So if you’re looking to upgrade the sound quality of your ride, you might find this video helpful.

  1. Really looking forward to upgrading my Legacy with an alpine ILX-W650 with KTA-650 power pack, back up cam and 4 Kicker CS two way speakers

  2. A cool thing to actually do If you want to make life easier Is pull the actual connector off of the old speaker If it's on wires and just solder it to the new speaker That way you don't mess with the car itself And it's just plug and play of course if the speaker supports it in this case the mail end is actually directly built into The speaker itself But other times it comes out into a wire from the speaker And that's what I did to my car and it made life a whole lot easier

  3. Thanks I'm in the process of changing speakers in my 16 Ram. I have watched a ton of videos but none let you hear the sound. Let alone the before and after sound. Thanks for taking that extra step, Rock On!

  4. when I took off my old speakers which are not working, it's already like this in 12:17. Does that mean the new speakers I'm buying are going to be plug and play?

  5. I got Kenwood stereo /CD awesome stereo my boss speakers blown after 6 months I got Memphis speakers 2 door speakers for $100.00 6-1/2 inch lifetime warranty on them can't go wrong

  6. I like the step-by-step nature of your replacement. You inspired me to finally tackle the rear door speaker removal replacement of my 1992 Toyota Century V8 import (JDM). Thanks EricTheCarGuy.

  7. How do I differentiate between a 6×8 and 6×9 speaker because I took my door panel off to take a look after buying a 6.5 speaker only to see it won't fit. But now I'm seeing there's also 6×8 speakers?

  8. i like how car guys often drive some of the most random, obscure car models. when would somebody apply silicone around the speaker base and what for?

  9. Did you have to unplug your battery at any point of the video? I keep hearing I need to unplug when installing front door speakers. Car sound systems are new to me.

  10. Just put those front door kicker speakers in my ute (Google what a ute is). Awesome speakers especially with a small amplifier.

  11. If you hook the red wire to one speaker connector and the black wire to the other speaker connector from a multimeter. It will give you a positive number if red is on red and black on black. If you get a negative number you will know that your black is were red or positive, and red is were black goes. The opposite holds true if you get a positive number on your multimeter. I means red is non red and black on black.

  12. just take the connector off the other speaker and put it on that one in the same direction that it was as long as you read and see the positives and negative are on the same side otherwise turn it around

  13. Anyone recommend what speakers to get for my 2011 town car ? Stick speakers starting to go bad too. Something with good sound and a little bass bump ? I’m so over the big sub and amp in the trunk
