I think this why they should have social workers working for the police department. After the police made initial contact he could/should be referred to the social worker with the police.
Also, we should increase the pay of social workers as an incentive to have more people in the position and to lessen the burden on case loads

I honestly feel bad for this guy. I can see the pain in his eyes for whatever reason. I hope he’s doing better these days.
He feels helpless and alone. My son stood in front of the police and said shoot me, they were on the second" drop the knife" when his big brother tackled him to the ground. Thankfully we are in Australia and shootings by police are not that common.
This is why the US needs police reform, this is not their job (or shouldn't be). social workers, community cops even as a midway point are crucial. That, with free education, health care and mental health services would literally make USA a god tier country that people in other developed nations would be envious of.
