Sorry, your first instinct to call the police was the right one. By doing so you could have saved this kid from a life of crime in the future. This way you really didn't teach him anything……
I love how these people showed loved and compassion to a young man! he was breaking into neighborhood cars…so what? sun glasses? and skittles was all he was looking for! he was hungry and had trouble driving on sunny days…and for all of you saying call the cops? I will remind you that he was 125pds! how was he supposed to defend himself against his cellmate and his gang? this innocent child would be forced to discover his feminine side and how to make lipstick from red Kool-Aid packs! some of your comments are sickening!
Wow! Amazing that you gave him the talk about repercussions. You don’t see much forgiveness these days. Great job on keeping him out of the system. Prayers that he learned something that will stick.

Sorry and scared are two completely different things. That little punk wasn't sorry at all. I bet it didn't cross his mind to give any property back the first time he did this (and this wasn't the first), so, no, he wasn't sorry. He was just scared that he might get hurt or in trouble. He should have been arrested and had his parents informed. His parents should have been embarrassed with a visit from the police. As it is, he was probably out the next night, just in a different neighborhood.

Lets see we stole things that we can sell for more money, I would have asked if there was a drug problem. It is concerning as to why he needs these things, not just that he did it. There may have been more of a problem that the money was needed for, or maybe they are hungry where he lives. I would ask if they needed money for some reason because that was the focus here in this incident.
Well, he wasnt going to ruin his life because his record gets expunged at 18. Thats the reason hes doing it.
They should have called the kids parents. So basically you know he has broken into at least 10 cars and you dont do anything. Ok I get you dont want to call the police but you could let the parents known that he breaking into cars. There is no accountability. I'm sure this kid probably didnt go home. I doubt he learned his lesson. Next time lock your doors.

How dumb. Lucky he wasn't shot. I think the guy that slammed the door on him felt pity. A lot nicer than I'd been. I really hope the kid learned from this.
The only way they could have handled this better is if they made him get his parents up to come get him. That would have been one more thing to push him away from the path he was going, if his parents really love him. Everything else was just amazing. Love these two crazy, awesome people!
Kid didn't want a job, he was looking for money or things to sell, for drugs, plain and simple. But I love how this couple handled it, hopefully it will impact this young man in a positive way.

The guy may still have been arrested. He called the cops. The other number of cars he broke into have owners of property that was stolen as well. When it gets returned ,they have the same choice to pursue charges as well . Hopefully they have the same good heart as this guy
Such a Nice guy, and some people has some grade of autism or sometimes some grade of stupid desicions and then they ended up doing the wrong things..
I hope he realizes how lucky he is you're so right he could have got killed over five bucks!
I just get this feeling that if he were any other race, that kid would have gotten hurt and arrested that night. But that’s just me. That couple was sympathetic towards him only because he was a white kid 🤷🏻♀️
