Yeah, I am not an ex-con, but I struggle getting on my feet because of mental issues… nothing dangerous, but crippling at times… for lack of a less dramatic word. I am not super handsome, but can get by on charm… until we get into my situation. It is a dealbreaker for many. Luckily, there are always those who are understanding. Usually it's women with the same issues as me, but I don't mind that.

I had a very bad experience, and never want to have that happen again.
His lawyer lied to me saying that he was innocent.
Come to find out he wasn't innocent, and he was abusive.

My ex husband was in prison for Murder 1 until his Mother and I helped draft documents for Appeal he won the appeal remanded back to lower court, they did a plea deal of manslaughter time served. Four and a half years he spent in prison. It changed him so much it destroyed our marriage after being married 11 years. I cannot imagine what ppl go thru with a normal life when back, I mean he was possessive of food, always looking around his shoulder when he ate in public, he was very cold and distant, after he was home for five years he still was not out of prison in his head. Me being in the army at time made it difficult to deal with. I admire anyone who can go through that much stress and still be the same person without the crime. It changes just as soldiers we go in one way, come home different. Once I got my stripes I had to find my voice, and be a leader and role model, but I was at least able to go get food out of base or on, just depends when you go.
Some women will overlook prison sentences if you are a different man and you have obviously changed for the better. Even violent offences. If you do the same thing again though, I'm out. One stike.
