How to paint brake drums ANY color DIY

How to spray paint brake drums. Want to re-use your brake drums? This video will show you how to save some money and safely recondition your brake drums. It costs $50 a drum (and more for some cars) and only $20 to get them turned. Plus, the spray paint will make them look great, prevent rust, and make getting them off the next time very simple (no more stuck rusty brake drums). I used high temperature paint to get the perfect finish and last under heavy braking!

  1. I've done hundreds of drums, my technique is faster, easier, cheaper, and way more effective. Never just paint over rust!

  2. Hey, Chris, would soaking the drum in vinegar make the rust removal faster? Especially around those outside vanes. Or would the vinegar mess up the polished drum lining?

  3. I just bought my drums a couple of months ago and I want to paint them I don't need to have them turned so can I basically just clean them with brake fluid lightly sand them Prime and paint?

  4. I was thinking soapy water for the brake drums only soapy water if it touched the lining of the brake drum its ruined so I guess not *I used soapy water on alot of the parts & a tooth brush it helped remove so much rust in area I couldn't reach with sandpaper * * it's just soap and water works so good .. only nothing can touch the liner of the brake liner *

  5. They cost like 15 20 bucks brand new fro. Rock Auto or carid.won't worth going through all the trouble resurfacing cleaning and painting

  6. If they are not expensive, new drums would be good to buy. I got new drums and used silver caliper paint to give it a protective cover. And I needed new wheel bearings so I just fitted then into the new drums.
