Working in the organ donation field is certainly a mixed bag of emotions, my role is to be there for both families before and after the procurement, then follow up with both sides post surgery..I’ve certainly seen my fair share of heartbroken and uplifted families but even if a transplant isn’t successful (only happened once) the family couldn’t help but be uplifted by the multiple other people that were saved. Organ donors aren’t just a “one and done” sort, depending on what is viable, an organ donor can help save 8 lives and a tissue donor can help upwards of 50.
