20 Years Later, 9/11 Witnesses Still Feel The Pain

Artist Ruth Sergel recorded hundreds of 9/11 witness testimonials from 2002-2003. Twenty years after the attack, three of them share their path of healing from the trauma. This NBC News Digital short was inspired by the NBC News Studios and Yard 44 film “Memory Box: Echoes of 9/11”. The film premieres Wednesday, September 8th at 10PM ET on MSNBC and will simultaneously begin streaming exclusively on Peacock TV.

  1. Honestly every time my takes me to the airport she always tell me I really wish I can say bye to when you’re boarding at the door to the airplane. And every time I ask why? It’s because of 9/11 ever since then America has changed. My parents America is vastly different from the America us young people are growing up in, I am born in May 1998, currently 23 currently 11/25/2021 Thanksgiving day. 1 year and 11 months in a pandemic that has killed over 4 million people worldwide and 600,000+ Americans died out of that 4 million. I can say as millennial they America we all once knew and still live in will no longer be with us once we approach the end of our lifetime.

  2. Real Alert 10/5-

  3. I've always thought of the ground zero memorial as a cemetery. I'm not even American and only got to see the whole thing about 5 years ago. I can't understand people joking around and taking smiling pictures at the site. The same thing with the holocaust memorial in Berlin.

Plain ignorance and shallowness I guess. We need more signs at those memorials urging for silence and respect.

  4. my uncle called in sick that day and watched from his penthouse as people jumped he lost most of his firm on 83 floor it still haunts him i pray the victims are now angels amongst us

  5. I was 15 when this tragedy happened, All the way from South Africa 🇿🇦 I was back from school my parents and I were watching the news that was the first time I saw my parents wept 😢 , it felt like the world 🌍 is coming an end. It was extremely shocking and saddening

  6. I was 20.. back then but.. I remembered as a teen (before the attacks) being able to take the city train to the airport leisurely & watching people hug each other as they board planes (no security check). You could eat lunch & watch the planes take off from the gates.
The world was a different place & it’s sad children born after 2001 will never experience it

  7. I am from XJ, China, back to 2001, that year was my first year in elementary school. In that time, I was too small, I did not realize how this relates with me and how this going to affect the world but I still felt it is not good. I think there many Americans might think how does this matter to China, to a Chinese. In fact, I had a same question and I have my answer now. The answer is not just about 21 Chinese citizens lost their life in that day, it is about we share the same feeling as human beings, it is about we face the same threat from terrorism, it is about how the US and China/world were working together to against terrorism. Just 1 month later after 911 President J. W. Bush visited China, then 2 months later after his visit, China joined WTO. I saw how the relationship between the US and China changed, I saw terrorism has never stop the step of globalization, I also saw the terrorism still spread all over the world, the US, Europe and China as well. Back to 2009, in my hometown, Urumqi, XJ, China, there was a series terrorist attacks, a lot of peoples lost their life in those attacks. (So Chinese people can definitely feel American people's sadness, because we both suffered). I started to realize that terrorism is not just an enemy for a certain country but for all the countries in this world. Thus, I went to University of California to study global studies in 2012. After many years study, I think the US and China and the whole world should stand together to against terrorism. There can be some competition between the US and China but there should no conflict. Both country should respect each other and cooperate with each other, give up some of political differences such as stop the double standards on against terrorism. Under the current COVID pandemic, I strongly believe, the US and China should sincerely cooperate with each other just like the old days. Because, under globalization, all the people will share the pain and feel the pain together no matter it from terrorism or from the pandemic. May God bless us. Peace.
