  1. lived in Bartonville for 21 years and Gerald was crossing guard when i used to walk to school or ride my bike there. He kept every kid safe and loved what he did. He will be missed by many and he for sure loved what he did. Thank you Gerald for everything!!

  2. He has earned the hearts of the community by doing a simple job that meant a big thing, take care of those in charge of the communities future by letting them safely cross the street.

  3. That touched my heart. It was so beautiful to see his community come together to celebrate his career and legacy like that. Such an honorable man with great work ethic and values.

  4. He never got promoted to school administration?? Or even senior crossing guard? in 67 years?? Jesus am I the only one that thinks this is really sad?

  5. One more reason to believe in humanity. All the young people in this school will keep this example of dedication in their hearts and reproduce it in their own way with their community.
God Bless you Mister Gerald Beckette

  6. I’d be lying if I said this didn’t make me tear up, this must have meant so much to Gerald! He clearly had such a wonderful influence on generations of kids!
