A teenage suspect and police officers exchanged gunfire outside an eastern Indiana middle school Thursday morning before the boy ran inside and killed himself, authorities said.

The law currently allows for patients to be kicked out of mental health facilities for missing 3 appointments, whether the missed appointments were call ahead cancellations or not. Without treatment, a person cannot get their medication, and there is often long waiting lists to get in anywhere. Then you have to see a therapist for an average of 6 sessions before seeing a psychiatrist. At an average one session per week, that is 6 weeks. Then it often takes up to an additional 4 weeks to see a psychiatrist. 10 weeks to wait to be properly treated is too long. We need a reform on mental health laws in this country!
