  1. There is a confusing Australian context to this, so it can seem various ways on a surface level. As a local Aussie:

    Basically, the PM Scott Morrison of the conservative (in Australia, "Liberal" refers to free-market capitalism) party was going on a typical "photo-op" at a pub in Newcastle, and was thus surrounded by press. This is electioneering (the election is in May), so that's what was happening.
    Just north of here, there were some of the worst floods in our history, which was also bungled in response (billions of emergency relief unspent, federal help days after the epicentre, and a very manicured photo-op in Lismore in private to avoid a repeat of the bungled bushfire disaster response in 2020, where Morrison forced angry locals to shake his hand, and those locals still haven't received their promised aid).

    For some more context, Scott Morrison has an incredible history of lying, and being called out as a liar (and then saying he's never lied in public office). So, it was, after 9 years of the same government, a good time for a local to vent their anger at one particular broken promise. This is a shortened video clip of what happened, but Morrison had to be careful and appear to be listening due to the photo-op for the election, otherwise he would look bad.
    The man also brought up the broken promise from 2018 of a federal integrity commission, which would hold politicians to the scrutiny their require in public office to avoid corruption. I recommend watching Knights in Shining Llama's video series on that for better info, but essentially the government has been using a toothless tiger.

    I'll also add, don't ever confuse British Sky News for Australia's Sky News (after dark), because it is owned by mogul Rupert Murdoch (who we gave the world) of Fox News in the US, that phone-tapping scandal in the UK, and others like a media monopoly of print in Australia.

  13. This was handled very badly. The majority of individuals do not have an entourage to protect them from uncomfortable comments or moments. If he had taken a few minutes to sit down with that man, he might have learned something. He would have calmed down if he felt like somebody cared.

  18. Worst move politically was to let his entourage move the man on. Offer to sit down with the guy and listen to what he's got to say.

  20. He speaks for many Australians that's for sure. Just a shame that Scummo has no soul and couldn't care less. Fingers crossed we don't re-elect him but knowing our history we probably will.

  21. at a buffet, i personally sneak corndogs into the buffet so others can enjoy them. I hide 6 corndogs in my jacket pockets. it then, is a joy for me to see other patrons of the establishment eat my corndogs thinking they were part of the buffet.
