When I first saw the body cam footage whilst not knowing who the guy was… I legit thought he was a student! The backpack looks like a kid’s. His outfit. I had no clue he wasn’t a student. I just thought he like got held back a couple years or something like that. 🧐🤔

[Below I have written a 800 word examination and interpretation of the events that unfolded. I’ve already commented this on multiple posts and videos with the hopes of reaching anyone ill informed, ignorant, or just interested in educating themselves on the matters.]
Shooting Breakdown:
On the week of the incident Charles Landeros enrolled his daughter at the Cascade Middle School without the knowledge of the daughter’s mother who had divorced Landeros and gained custody over her daughter in 2013. Furthermore the daughter was scheduled to begin attending Cascade Middle School on the 10th of January 2019. This occurred without the knowledge of the mother and made no reference to the daughter’s mother in the enrollment paperwork. Having suspicions the mother visited Cascade Middle School on January 11th (the following day to the daughters enrollment commencing) with the 2013 divorce and custody paperwork. School staff then requested both the school resource officer and Landeros, the child’s father arrive at the school. Officer Steve Timm of the Eugene Police Department, who is the school resource officer for the Bethel District Schools (one of which is Cascade Middle School), requested additional assistance upon learning the matter was a custody dispute.

As mentioned this following paragraph will skip the interaction between Cascade Middle School staff, Officers of the Eugene Department, Landeros, the daughter’s mother, and the daughter (who become coincidentally present but was ultimately kept away from Landeros due to safety concerns). Responding Officers Steve Timm and Aaron Johns escorted Landeros from the building with some resistance from Landeros. Advising him that he would be arrested if he didn’t leave. At this time there were (among other people) students in the hallway close by and the daughter (which was purely coincidental). Due to continued verbal arguing and physically resistance the Officers (now safely outside the school hallway) escalated the matter and placed Charles Landeros under arrest for disorderly conduct and trespass.
It was following this that Landeros reached into his pocket and produced a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun and fired two shots towards Officers Timm and John. By design these handguns carry 18 rounds (excluded any chambered round). However the firearm operated by Landeros was equipped with a “PLUS 2” bottom plate which extended the magazine capacity to 20 rounds. There were a total of 21 rounds present in Landero’s weapon (prior to the two shots fired towards the Officers). It can be expected that in arriving at the school Landeros had already loaded the weapon (as no slide action can be seen in the bodycamera footage), and replaced the chambered round such that his firearm was holding the maximum capacity.
Landeros was then shot twice by Officer Steve Timm with a Glock 21 chambered in .45 ACP. He succumbed to his injuries.
Inspection of the scene made evident that Landeros was also carrying an additional magazine on his belt and another in his car (both loaded with .45 caliber ammunition). His backpack also contained additional ammunition of a different caliber.
In 2018 the FBI received tips regarding Charles Landeros “posting violent anti-government messages on social media” (Landeros was a very outspoken left-wing activist within the community). The DA explained that the local FBI office had “concluded there was insufficient information to substantiate that a crime had been committed.”
On January 9th, two days prior to the shooting of Charles Landeros, the nearby Springfield Police Department received a screenshot of a comment written by Landeros on Facebook that read: “Time to start killing all pigs”.
On the morning of January 11th, approximately 60 minutes prior to the shooting of Charles Landeros, the manager of the Springfield Police Department’s Facebook page that a person by the name “Charlie Landeros” commented “Death to all pigs” on a SPD post about a “California police officer shot and killed while investigating a traffic crash”.
Personal Note:
I hope everyone who has read this has found it at least someone informative and I highly encourage you to further educate yourself of this and similar police involvements. I hope those defending the actions of Landeros can see that he was a disturbed man that, had he not been shot, posed a serious risk to the residents of Eugene and more immediately the pupils of Cascade Middle School. Remember, these are kids aged 11 to 14. And for him to have previous FBI investigations on his file due to aggressive comments towards Law Enforcement Officers (even one that gave there life protecting their community) and then proceed to bring a loaded handgun with a magazine extension, 2 other handgun magazines, and a backpack full of ammunition. All because he had violated the custody order of his daughter. There’s no way you can view his actions and the events that unfolded such that he becomes the victim.

I grew up around the corner and went to this school. This is sickening.
As a former school principal it struck me that school personnel contacted the parent (Landeros) who had no educational rights. They should have released the student to her mom and then informed Landeros at the end of the school day what had occurred. Landeros was a ticking time bomb and would likely have done something equally self-destructive at some point, but at least no students and staff at the school would have been endangered or traumatized.
FIRST "Let me see your OTHER HAND" In traffic stops with TWO officers a good tactic is to have the SECOND officer on the passenger side to see if suspect is going to pull a gun on the first officer. I saw this in action and it worked great. Another video cops stayed on DRIVERS side and one got shot.
