  1. A new discovery??? A new study??? We have known about this for decades now….Canada even has a national historical site for it….L'Anse aux Meadows…..glad to hear more artifacts are being discovered or that new research is being done….but 1000 year old Viking settlements in North America is old news, so to speak.

  2. ❌❌OH, NO~~~~~~ “ ASIANS ” had a settlement in North America exactly 20,000 years ago

They crossed islands between Asia and North America. Look at the islands between Asia and North America( Alaska).

Peru, South America, has ruins from 15,000 years ago.

  3. These are important archeological discoveries – but I think the content suffers a lot from the misleading framing of this news piece.

As to who was first – I can point to the inscription on the back of the Leif Eiriksson statue which stands in Reykjavik, Iceland – and which appears as background graphics the video. The statue was a gift to Reykjavik from the US to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the Althing, the Icelandic parliament, which was founded in 930. It reads:

    Leifur Eiricsson
    Son of Iceland
    Discoverer of Vinland
    The United States of America
    to the People of Iceland
    on the one thousandth
    anniversary of the Althing

    AD 1930
    😁

  4. I thank your a few years to late telling the news on this. Being a native we were told about the Dragon people who came to the land from the smoke of the sea aka the Viking’s.

  5. It's been well documented that the Vikings visited Newfoundland way before Columbus sailed from Europe. Here's what the BBC said "It has long been known that Europeans reached the Americas before Columbus's arrival in the New World in 1492." Now you know why I pay attention to the BBC and CBC and ignore American media. The hype from the paper in Nature is that they used a new dating methodology that allowed for a more accurate date. Did ABC provide fake news? or are their employees examples of the American education system? You decide.

  6. The south Welsh did it in about 680AD or so… See Artorius Rex Discovered By Alan Wilson & Baram Blackett…
Prince Madoc, Very interesting… A U.S. archaeology society found the physical evidence to confirm…
It's all a bit outside of the accepted version of things…

  7. For those who misinterpreted this as “old news”. She is speaking about the accuracy of the scientifically generated date as the new discovery, not the early viking settlement well before Columbus’ arrival — that’s old news. Basically, validating the (previously discovered) settlement through a precise dating technique rather than a range.

  8. Where they the tall anglo looking dudes that where around when the spanish first landed in Florida? But had died off when they returned a few decades later? How about all the "afro" looking statues around central and south america?

  9. yawn, so everyone else can leave artifacts, structures and human remains, but the vikings left nothing . more fake news man, the media can literally dream something up over night and make it front page news the next day. its no wonder trump has so many supporters. and I'm mexican btw
