15. These are important archeological discoveries – but I think the content suffers a lot from the misleading framing of this news piece.

    As to who was first – I can point to the inscription on the back of the Leif Eiriksson statue which stands in Reykjavik, Iceland – and which appears as background graphics the video. The statue was a gift to Reykjavik from the US to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the Althing, the Icelandic parliament, which was founded in 930. It reads:

She is speaking about the accuracy of the scientifically generated date as the new discovery, not the early viking settlement well before Columbus’ arrival — that’s old news. Basically, validating the (previously discovered) settlement through a precise dating technique rather than a range.
