14. The lack of support from the church is what's driven women to HAVE abortions. I worked for a pro-life crisis pregnancy center for 7 years. I did loads of research while counseling thousands of women. The overwhelming majority of women who have abortions are single mothers with at least 2 kids under the age of 5. They terminate because they lack financial and emotional support from family, their partner, and community. Studies conducted by both Christian and secular institutions showed just as many Christian women have abortions as non-Christian women. And that's what I discovered in the counseling room. I was shocked to realize Christian women would rather face Jesus with their abortion than put their family through more struggle (or be judged by their church/religious family). If the Catholic/Evangelical Christians are "so pro-life," they would've been offering women help FOR the last 50 years. NOW all of the sudden they're "trying to prepare." It's such hypocrisy and one of the reasons I left that career pro-choice.
