  1. Big ísland could handle a lot of rain. But poor developments is what caused a lot of the flooding. Any fool would have known that would happen. Maybe some people needed federal money to fill their pockets.

  2. weather is a natural part of life …buildiing designs no longer aligned with nature as man ego and commerce doing things upon nature THAT NEVER WOULD BE !

  3. It already rains a LOT in this location, where the flooding has occurred, so this is not something people aren’t already used to – fortunately. In fact the city of Hilo has the large open parkland partly to serve as a floodwater catchment, which it does very successfully.

  4. I tell you that the earth is spitting out the evil doers. The islands are going to be washed away to get rid of the illegal occupiers who wont leave voluntarily.

  5. I was visiting Hilo in 2000 (2001?) when 32" of rain fell and I still have pictures of people in town sitting on their roofs, houses floating down the streets, hundreds of cars piled-up in bay parking. It was unreal. If I remember right, this was the final undoing for Ray's, one of the best restaurants in Hawaii. God bless you people. So much bad this last year.
