So about 387 doz/ year * $3.00/dozen = $1163.50. $2080 – $1163.50 = <$916.50]> Gross Loss on Feed for the Birds/year. Now add in costs of hutch, $400, Fencing $200 Pine straw $360. and labor ($15.00/hr.). Remember you need egg cartons, Labels, advertising, and water, as well. So, you will loose money upon your endeavors to raise money from chickens unless, you keep them 2 or 3 years, keep them warm in the Winter so they lay more, put them in your freezer every two to three years for meat, saving the costs of buying from the grocery store. Also, increase what you charge your customers to at least $10.00 / Dozen. The other thing to do is increase your flocks to 3,000 rather than 30. Then you really will make money. Buy feed in bulk at discounts, Do as much labor as you can yourself. See 12 eggs at $10.00/ dozen. This is . 83 cents for all the work you do / egg. Also realize you have harnessed 3,000 birds to assist you. Your eggs at $10.00/dozen make much more sense than the same eggs at $3.00.

If you're a small business and not leveraged to endure a recession, you shouldn't be in business. The only thing outrageous about a $15 per hour minimum wage is that it's not enough.
