Because of psych patients being transferred there since psych wards have to run at reduced capacity. People assume nursing homes are only for the elderly, psych patients often get transferred there too covid or no covid.

How will the nursing homes be protected when the Majority of CNA workers are not properly trained. Please start paying CNA workers a decent wage, and properly train the CNA workers to wash their hands after they smoke cigarettes, and please tell them to wash their hands after spitting outside the rest homes. Train your CNA'S to stop stealing from the elderly patients. Please start hiring CNA workers with high moral standards who believe in working at the rest homes because they truly care for the elderly patients, not work just for the money.

This situation was caused by the blatant disregard for human life. Greed, subversion of laws, illegal practices, beyond dangerous staffing levels, falsification of documents and charting, political bribes and unscrupulous physicians. Been an RN for ten years and have seen it all!! The rampant GREED that permeates the nursing and rehab services is overwhelming and is an assault upon your morals. These places are worse than animal shelters!
It's ALL about money, profit and budget! The need for a nation wide Union for nurses is way past needed and so is a nation wide walkout of all healthcare staff! The HORRORS I have seen are too many to list and are almost exclusively due to dangerous understaffing!! These "businesses" operate with the blessings of politicians due to political action committees that take money from management and corporate employees then donate to politicians so, the money train keeps rolling!! The corporate and political leaders are complicit in the MURDER of the residents! Nothing will ever be done to correct this issue because of the enormous amounts of money involved!!

I see alot of issues with US nursing home. The 100% enclosure design prevent the entire building to be well ventilated. The need to have more windows, atrium, outdoor garden, anything to promote ventilation. Different wings need to on their own HVAC/ventilation system. Nursing assistant training and pay need to get much better.
This is a local concern. The president is human and there is only 24 in a day. There is a reason why we have local governments and authorities. No one takes responsibility.
Why are I’ll worker going in there to work !? It’s disgusting my dads gf is a care worker in a nursing home and rung in ill and was practically forced to come in to work as there was no one to cover her shift and the docters only signed her of for 3 days !

Ours has zero cases. They’re all tested. But a few have said they don’t know if they have 18 months even without the virus and they want to see their families. They don’t want to wait for a vaccine that may not come in their lifespan. They just want their families. Many have terminal illnesses. That’s the hard part. We’re not their children. We can try as hard we can to keep them safe, but at the end of the day… we’re asking people with maybe stage 4 lung cancer to live out the rest of their lives… not seeing their kids. I can’t even begin to tell you… how many times a week, I just cry in my car. I have kids and cannot imagine being told at the end of my life… not only am I suffering but I could not see my family for maybe the 5 months I’ve got left.

No one held a gun to these employees' heads making them take that job, and from my own personal experiences with nursing homes, the majority of workers there don't give a damn about the patient. It's a job where the patient most times doesn't have a clue what's going on, so the employee can fart around and be lazy. And that attitude right there is why covid-19 is so bad in nursing homes, the majority of workers are sorry-azzes who don't take the time to do things right, and because of that, many of them get sick themselves and die. I truly feel bad for the good employees, because they are stuck working with a bunch of deadbeats they have to cover for.
I work in a nursing home and we’ve been hit hard. 6 deaths, 15 active cases. One employee has died. He was in his 20s. I heard over 30 employees have been infected. Fortunately we’ve been able to test everyone and isolate those who’ve tested positive. We have PPE but we have to reuse our N95s. Amazingly no one in independent living or assisted living has been infected. Where our residents are already the sickest, most vulnerable, and most likely to spread the virus have been affected. We have no visitors, no group activities, no communal dining. The suffering and death, the grief, it is crushing my soul. I’m furious that our leaders have let things progress to this point. This DIDNT have to happen. Why were we so panicked about emptying the schools when we should have focused on protecting those most likely to fall ill and die? The way we talk about and treat our seniors is shameful.

I really don't understand what low wages have to do with people dying in nursing homes. If they are not paid well that's a management/owner issue. Are they saying that lower paid workers don't do as good of a job? That's not necessarily true. We should do our best no matter how much we are paid, especially when caring for the elderly. I also don't understand why they are saying there's no or not much testing being done when several people on this thread have said "everyone here tested positive except 4 people, I'm one of the 4." If there's not been much testing then why say "we've all been tested?" I know everyone at my grandmother-in-laws facility have been tested and waited over a week for results. No one wants anyone to die no matter what their age but blaming others isn't helpful. This is a new virus, of course there's not enough testing. There's not a vaccine either. We are all doing the best we can. No president, mayor or governor can work miracles with a virus that shows no to little symptoms before it's too late. Let's be thankful for the many wonderful staff at these facilities who are helping others and doing the best they can under challenging circumstances.
