Corey Widen was contacted by authorities earlier this month after she let her 8-year-old daughter walk their dog by herself in their Chicago neighborhood.

  1. As someone who also grew up in the wealthy northern suburbs of chicago, this is so typical of upperclass people who have nothing better to do. 🙄

  2. We need a law that allows kids to play outside? I realize there are sick people who would take advantage of a child, but kids need to learn responsibility and decision making somehow. At that age I left home at 8am and came back for dinner by 6pm. There were no school busses in my town, so we all walked.

  3. Need legislation to allow parents to be parents. Shouldn’t need a free range movement. WTF is going on in this country. People need to mind their own business.

  4. What the hell is wrong with people??? Neighbors need to mind their own business. That neighbor had NO REASON to call the police. That kid was perfectly fine she was not in no danger people should not nose in and judge what other people do with their kids. That is SO messed up. I support the little girl and her mom not the neighbor

  5. This is exactly why the Child Services Department is a joke. They really spent important, limited resources because a girl was walking her dog?!?!? And that neighbor….really, if you mind your own biscuits, life will be gravy. Mind your own Damn business.

  6. Me and my siblings used to ride bikes all day long. As far as we dared to go. In ditches and back woods. Some days alone. Parents did not overprotect back then. I don’t know if child predators where less back in the 80s or just not reported as they are these days. The neighbor that called the cops was kind to care. We are living in a dangerous world now.

  7. People shpuld be fined for clogging the system with bullshit calls or fake calls to cys or police. She was right it shouldn't have made it past the hotline when they heard it was about a kid walking their dog and then when they saw that she doesn't have a 5 year old they should have never wasted money and time on an investigation. And i think that neighbor need to be charged with frivolous or false reporting and forced to pay cost and fines. If they really thought she was 5 then ok let it go once but so many people get revenge on others by calling cys of cops and making stuff up and cys usually can tell so there needs to be a punishment foe thus and then people need to sue for defamation after. People need to use these services when its necessay but they dont when ut matters. When there is really something going on they keep their mouths shut and eyes closed and say "its none of our business if he's raping his kids or beating his wife , they seem so nice and have such a good family name ,what if we're wrong or what if the kids are lying " but if they dont like someone and disagree with someone or they're poor and differ on political opinions or god forbid, are gay, then its anyting goes and all is fair when making false reports to cops and cys right? This country has gotten worse and worse. I'm embarrassed to be an American. Truly.

  8. She is certainly old enough to walk a dog in her own neighborhood. I dont think it was a big neighborhood, so i dont think she was far from her home. She doesnt look 5 or younger either. To me i wouldve said 7. I think an 8 year old can certainly play outside without their parents there with them. I do think though, that 8 would be to young to be home alone. I kinda started that slowly when my kids were around 12.

  9. With how our world is nowadays, I don't blame the neighbor for calling… look what happened to Mollie Tibbetts.. a 20 year old out running by herself.. so I think they should be grateful someone was watching her and thought about her safety and wellbeing. I was robbed at gunpoint and almost kidnapped not too long ago walking in an extremely nice upscale neighborhood but harm still came to me

  10. She was by herself which thats the first mistake she be in a pair or a group
Dont asume your neighborhood is perfect theres random cars everyday that drive by and one of them can be a potential kidnapper

Kids should be taught independence but in a safe way
    This mother bugs me
That this case is being stretched after it happened and she wants to be on tv

  11. I understand where the mother is coming from. Just don’t go crying when something bad happens to the child . There’s pedos hiding everywhere churches , schools, nice clean neighborhoods… and so many kids go missing and haven’t been found to this day…. personally I would let my daughter think she’s walking the dog alone but I would be watching from the window for creeps.

  12. In my neighborhood, people keep watch. A child rambling down the street with her poodle on a leash means we follow that child until we can't see her anymore, and then some of us step outside to extend our view. We can't keep children locked inside, but we can be responsible citizens. We can keep an eye out for each other.

  13. This is what happens when the government wants to parent your children because they think they can do a better job…..idiot neighbor idiot government response.

  14. Yes….stupid. Leave the lady alone. Her call as the parent. Kids won't learn situational awareness without this type of freedom….

  15. whaaaat, that like girl is 8 years old? cuz she speaks and sounds like she's 18 months old. I didn't understand any of that baby babble. mom needs to spend extra time giving her speech lessons or hire some outside help with her speech, cuz it's horrible to say the least. an 8 year old should be able to speak clearly and be understood as well. I wonder if her being homeschooled has anything to do with it or if her mom even noticed it cuz it's very possible that her mom doesn't even realize that there is a speech problem cuz she understands her child when she talks.
