  26. I understand the message may pass for disturbing. I know what you are feeling. We've been there. On March 6th I had my birthday party with all my friends. Two days later, every region of Italy was put in quarantine. We didn't see that coming. Feels like a freaking Black Mirror episode. I'm scared. And worried, for my grandparents in particular. I feel trapped. It's killing us physically and emotionally. And it has just been a few days. Please PLEASE TAKE THIS MESSAGE SERIOUSLY. Stay home for your family, for yourselves, for your dog.   31. The death rate in Italy is huge compared to other countries. I have some worry that the virus may have mutated again. China saw two strains of covid19 (L and S strains). The L strain branched off of the original S strain and was considered more virulent and infectious. It looks as if the covid19 strain in Italy is even more deadly than the L strain from China.

  38. This dude’s ignorance is ridiculous. There are 4 different influenza viruses and the vaccines are not 100%. You cannot get this corona virus more than once. You get it and your immune system starts building antibodies immediately. Your symptoms might subside and you might test negative but you’re still creating antibodies for weeks, even months, after your symptoms.

    The reason why you have to get a new flu shot every year is that “the flu” is not one single disease; it’s a class of many “broadly similar but not similar enough” diseases, so it’s impossible (practically speaking) to make a single vaccine for all of them.

    While no doubt this Coronavirus has mutated in the few months it’s been “out there,” it seems odd that it would mutate rapidly enough for our “memory B cells” to not recognize it.

    I’m guessing that’s more of a strategic statement than a true medical statement: In terms of making plans to fight the spread of the disease, the UK government believes it’s best to assume that it’s possible to catch COVID19 multiple times, because we don’t know for-sure yet that that’s not the case.

    No, it's a viral infection. If you get it, your body either fights off the infection and you build antibodies, or you die. Unless it mutates–and it could–you fight off the viral strain and become IMMUNE to it.
