I don't know how nursing home transfers to hospitals are usually counted in New York, but in my experience in Ontario, Canada, if a resident of a N.H. dies in hospital, it is always noted as died in hospital. This practice changed during the pandemic in order to get accurate counts of deaths for nursing homes.
    As for sending infected patients back to nursing homes, this has also been a long standing practice and a major contributor to nursing home outbreaks of various flu, and norovirus.
    It's been a mistake for a long time and definitely should not have been happening then, or now.
    With staff working 2 jobs between hospital and nursing homes, and residents being transferred back and forth, excess deaths has been the norm.

28. I would image that prior to the pandemic, these nursing homes were under-staffed and had insufficient PPE. The federal recommendations suggest placing nursing home clients (patients) back into the nursing homes ONLY if they have adequate staff and equipment. Cuomo threw everybody under the bus…all the while there was a military ship fully equipped, docked in NY….politics!
