This bs about being under 16 and effectively having "Diplomatic Immunity" at the Olympics is a total joke.
Otherwise, why don't we just pick all under 16's in our squads, load em full of as much dope as they can take while still standing and just say go out there and win.
Then when their dope test comes back positive, oh well, you're under 16, you have Diplomatic Immunity, too bad so sad to all the other athletes playing fair and square….
Why is this a double standard?! Regardless of how people in different countries perceive Marijuana, It is still a banned substance for olympic athletes and frankly for athletes in lots of sports outside of the olympics. If you want to have a discussion about the merits of it being banned than so be it. BUT IT'S STILL BANNED. Phelps got a 3 month suspension for him admitting to using it after a photo surfaced. He never even tested positive for it. So Richardson got a 30% more lenient suspension than Phelps. It's the timing that sucks for Richardson. Phelps suspension happened 3 years from the next olympics and Richardson within 30 DAYS of the next olympics. That sucks but that's the type of comparison that should be had. Not between corrupt Russia, a minor (which is, yes BS on its face and should of course be changed), no admission of guilt and wildly different timing of the test result. The IOC had its hands tied with the whole being a MINOR card and the timing of when the results came You don't just rewrite the books overnight because you, (WADA, IOC) wrote them wrong to begin with. That's not how the works or should work. We don't want to devolve into a lesser condition because RUSSIA exists.
Every adult near her is responsible for this and not her. She's 15 and has never known any other life. She deserves love and respect and compassion coupled with the chance to learn and grow from this experience.
