It seems he discharged the firearm and struck himself then continued to hold the weapon and point it at the officers. Honestly, it doesn't mean jack diddly if he intended to shoot them or not or even if he accidentally pointed it. Fleeing police, illegally possessing a stolen firearm with the brazen intent to use it (being at the mall and brandishing the firearm). He wanted to be a gangster, and he died like one. No sympathy from me. I also found (not stole) a loaded firearm when I was 16. I considered having some fun with it but decided to turn it in. Amazingly (sarcasm) I'm still alive and not in prison.

It is concerning that this officer is still on the force, however these facts regarding his previous shootings didn't come to light till after the kid was shot dead. Now after the fact the family gets this information and wants to use this against the officer. It doesn't change the facts that this kid, a 17 yr old had a stolen loaded gun at a mall w hundreds of innocent people around, then chose to use that gun to fire at a police officer who was just there doing his job. I feel bad for the family, but at the same time you need to understand that kid was a dangerous person.
