Rescued California sisters, ages 8 and 5, say they survived by drinking rainwater from leaves and keeping ‘happy thoughts’ about their family

Their rescue was described as a “miracle,” but two girls who were lost in the Northern California forest over the weekend said Monday that they depended on each other to survive and had faith that their daddy was coming to save them.

Leia Carrico, 8, and her 5-year-old sister, Caroline, spoke publicly for the first time, described how they got lost while walking on a deer trail and wandered past a fallen tree on their family’s 80-acre property that their father, Travis Carrico, warned them never to go beyond.

“Leia wanted a little, tiny more adventure. But I wanted more,” Caroline said of how their misadventure Friday afternoon started.

  3. Wow thank goodness they where found, But something tells me that the parents are going to have to put trackers on there kids because the oldest looks like she just might do it again. Although i hope not.

  6. I tell my kids if you get lost in the woods, you better pick a tree and hug it. "Don't make me run in circles trying to find you. Hug a tree and wait. Wondering off isn't good. So glad those 2 babies are safe. I couldn't imagine what mom and dad were going through. God is good.♡♡

  8. Beats the hell out of learning video games. One of the neighborhood kids was a firebug so of course I gave him a place to play with fire. He had to build a firepit, he couldn't use any volatile liquids, matches or lighters. He eventually built a fire pit where his father burned trash. He could build a fire in the middle of a swamp in knee dep water. No shit.

  33. The 5 year old desperately needs speech therapy. The 8 year old desperately needs a diet, and to be smacked into the next the century for the damn attitude after all the fun she had planning an “adventure”, and maybe she’ll get a fragment of an idea what is like scaring her mom out of her fucking mind and wasting emergency resources.
