Abbot just did not read the fine print for the Texas people. He should read the fine print that profit, dividends, bonuses and tax cuts come first to businesses just like Republicans like it. Investment in infrastructure that does not pay back revenues but once every 10 years is just not going to happen. Just like masks people wont use them if you dont tell them too, Utilities wont invest in more than 2 years pay back.
They should investigate the Governor and Republican Legislature for being incompetent. The power system in Texas was desgined for extreme heat. This is the Subtropics, not the Arctic. Texas had an Arctic, down to negative 18 degree ICE storm that last 4 days, 3 times in a row with actual temps to negative 5. Even northern Mexico froze. Everything froze, especially with Gulf dewpoint and humidity factor. The last time this happened was in 1895…there was no electricity harnessed then, anywhere. "Winterizing" all the grid in a state this big isn't feasible…at all. And for what? So it "might" happen again 125 years from now? At what cost? Plus TX had 25% feed on this ridiculous windmill and solar panel junk that obviously failed when they all froze solid. Even the nuclear sensors froze and shut that feed down. Anyway, It was 59 to 75 degrees since last Suday, and tomorrow it will hit 80, Texas' normal winter temps. Anyone want to buy some Texas red grapefruit or valencia oranges, or how about some wheat? Oh wait…it froze. All of the crops died. Your food will go up. Guess you gotta wait, but not for your gas prices. Oh and by the way, my northern friends, we've heard enough about how you handle cold and ice and snow and laugh. You don't live in the subtropics, so zip it. When you have a 100 degree heat wave up there, and it will and has, and your grid goes down, and it has and will, and you shut down your schools, your hospitals, your stores, and your tires catch on fire, and the roads buckle and seniors die from heat stroke, we promise we won't say, "hey northerners, we in Texas call that, "a little warm….we usually BBQ and have cold beer and play football, so why don't you 'summerize' your stuff up there and buy some air conditioners? Oh, must be that blue state stupidity"…. Get the picture? We're tired of your ignorance as well as this continuous ongoing crap from the media and a major ice weather event in an area that doens't get that every winter. ERCOT are switch monitors, they have no control over the quality of the switches, or the rest of the infrastructure that supplies those switches. The infrastructure is what failed. That’s on the governor of Texas, the legislators of Texas who write the regulations that define the minimum standards the utilities must abide by, and the private industry that chose profits before people in their design of the infrastructure they were tasked to build. Overhauling ERCOT won’t fix the lack of regulations or the bad faith actors behind the flawed infrastructure the governor and state legislators and private industry created. It’s misdirection at its finest, and will guarantee that another event like this will happen again!
The class actions have started! Texans are rightly pissed! Current politicos like Abbott and Cruz are going to get annihilated by voters.
