Today we took the courage to occupy the Legco. We have no violent or evil intents, we did so out of a sense of justice and conscience, out of our love for HK, the people of HK and our concerns for the future of HK.
Today is the anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR, HK has undergone dramatic social and political upheavals throughout the time. Since Carrie Lam has come to power, public anxieties has been amplified, particularly after she introduced the extradition bill, regardless of the opposition of hundreds of thousands of HK people. Citizens of HK truly care so much about their homeland that they tried to stop the passage of the extradition bill at all costs, using all possible means, whether it is peacefully, rationally, courageously standing on the front line or even risking of getting hurt and injured. Yet, the government turned a deaf ear to our demands, completely ignoring the public opinion and even treated the people as an enemy of the government.
The current state of government is not desired by the people. We protestors only have the intention of bringing about a better HK, we have no choice but partaking in occupy protests and civil disobedience, and hence we occupied the Legco today. We understand that our actions may be criticized by the wider society but please do think about the root of the matter. What has caused the rift that tear our society apart? Why is public dissent keep growing day by day? (What has the people of HK done to deserve this?) For what reason are we backed into a corner, left with no other real options? We are not weaponised, we do not seek to use violence, we just have the pure determination to uphold justice. For this reason, we are fearless and will continue to strive forward to achieve our cause. The HK government still has time to repent. We sincerely hope that negotiations can be back on tracks.
We occupiers, urge the government to meet our five demands：
1. Retract the extradition bill entirely,
2. retract the characterisation of the 612 protest as a riot,
3. drop charges against all anti-extradition bill protesters
4. establish an independent commission to seek responsibility from the police over instances of “brutality,” and hold them accountable
5. issue an executive order to dismiss the Legco and implement dual universal suffrage immediately
As the anti-expedition bill movement has unfolded, three young citizens have martyred. We will never forget the grief and indignation. We hate to see more kind souls being sacrificed for the democracy, liberty and justice of HK. We wish society and the general public can unite to stand up to the evil law, fight against tyranny and protect and defend HK on our collective will."
