I'm old enough to remember when George Segal was "the next big thing," owing to his dramatic roles in Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolff, King Rat and his part as Biff in the nationally telecast of Death of a Salesman. At some point, he seemed to become a little "fat and happy," with comic roles and a Tonight Show regular fave of Johnny Carson. But, even then, his roles in Where's Poppa and California Split are classics. AND, unlike Elliot Gould (another "next big thing" of the late 60s), Segal managed to reinvent himself as a curmudgeon in his tv roles. So long to a VERY talented performer… even on the banjo!! I am grateful for his body of work.

Segal was one of my favorite film stars, saw him in the theater (A Touch of Class, The Black Bird, Carbon Copy, The Cable Guy) and on TV (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, The Hot Rock, Blume in Love, Rollercoaster, Who's Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?, etc.), many movies I've seen numerous times. He was a funny, gifted actor, among the best. May the Universe rest his soul.
