10. People who deny the truth of the 1619 project are the same as those who deny the Holocaust. The information contained in that report is not new. Meticulous records of the blatant slaughter of the millions of people who already occupied these lands by the so-called colonizers from Europe & Spain was recorded by the very people involved. They didn't hide or slant what happened. They had the blessings of their governments to do whatever it took to acquire land and resources. This genocide took place years before people were dragged here from all over the globe and forced into slavery. There is so much that is NOT taught about actual History. Its not about white history..Indian history..black history..asian history..etc. Its just History. And a lot of that History is ugly and painful. And since too many like to dilute or gloss over it..we don't learn and continue to wallow in a disgustingly unequal society. This country is still mired in hate..violence and oppression. People deny the impact of racism..sexism..homophobia while at the same time…practicing it and teaching it to new generations. Humans' capacity for hatred..our love for all things evil..our joy in the sufferings of others will never abate.

While the idea behind the 1619 project was good on the surface, the historiography behind it was, to put it charitably, trash (particularly the claim that the American Revolution was over slavery; given how explicitly the Confederacy spelled it out 80 years later, I seriously doubt the Founders would've been shy about it, let alone outright criticized it in an early draft of the Declaration of Independence (which is weird because the author was a slaver, but… y'know…whatever I guess))

    Unfortunately it was so poorly-executed that it's effectively poisoned any future projects of the same variety.
