Vulnerable Workers Losing Earnings To Wage Theft As Companies Profit

A group of construction workers hired after the devastating floods in Iowa last year went unpaid, without food and in deplorable living conditions until executives came under fire. Wage theft victims are usually low wage workers, sometimes undocumented, who are often too intimidated to complain. Experts say some companies hide behind labor brokers, claiming they never promised the workers anything. The company says their labor broker was the problem in Iowa, and announced it’s expanding existing oversight programs after it was contacted by NBC News.

  1. Yes this is wrong not to pay them but the real crime is hiring illegals in the first place and should be accountable for this PERIOD this takes away from American citizen jobs and taken care of us citizens workers and families it's illegal to hire ILLEGALS here illegally and that is a crime in itself even though they immigrants should not be treated that way the people that put them to work knowing there status should be prosecuted for fraud tax evasion hiring undocumented people is wrong period this hurts this country in taking away from us families driven by greed

  2. It's so weird seeing corporate media talking about wage theft. Never thought it'd be something they'd cover. It's the equivalent of saying "The guys we make propaganda for are actually stealing your wages lol sorry bro."

  3. The companies that use illegal/undocumented workers are the problem, they need to hire documented workers, or be fined. Also, even though the workers are undocumented, they did the work and have a right to be paid. If GOP lawmakers really wanted to solve the illegal immigration problem, they'd enact a law so U.S. citizens could sue the companies that employ undocumented workers and receive $10,000 per each undocumented worker, with all legal fees paid if they win their case. Model the law on the anti abortion bounty hunter law.

  4. Im in the same case atm, have been installing 5g cell gear for AT&T for several months, doing 15/7 shifts, risking life on towers, still haven't been paid…

  5. These labor contractors need to be outlawed, they are not unions wich operate under congretional authority, they do nothing but take up to half of the wages paid by the contractor, they do nothing for this money, it's a extortion racket and designed to undermine unions that are there to represent the workers and are democratic in operation, any member can become president of the union and every member votes on union business

  6. typical rich people in California did this for years work illegals then threaten to call ice report them if they did not go away without there pay. Heard it all the time on the 1 bus pch from Capristrano to long beach a very rapid story heard on the buses.
