13. It is sad, but Senators Sinema and Manchin seem to be playing their own private game, having nothing to do with democracy or voting rights.

    Sinema’s excuse for not actually supporting (she claims she does ) the two voting rights bills, is that there is a need for full discussion. Maybe I am missing the point, but the right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy. Every American citizen has the right to vote – full stop. What in the world could she possibly want to discuss? Either you believe in the right to vote or you don’t. There is no possible middle ground.

    Then there is both Manchin’s and Sinema’s excuse, that they support the voting bills, but don’t want to eliminate the filibuster. Well then don’t. The Senate has created carve outs for approving lower level Federal Court judges, for approving Supreme Court Justices, and for reconciling the Federal budget. The Senate can easily create a carve out dealing with voting rights laws, and leave the rest of the filibuster firmly intact

    I do not understand how Manchin’s and Sinema’s constituents are not bombarding them with emails, letters, phone calls and faxes, telling them to support this legislation. They both have substantial minority populations within their state, and I cannot believe they want to antagonize them.
    Hopefully their states’ residents can break thru with both of them, and get them to support this desperately needed legislation.
