  20. News anchors are so stupid. It has been said over and over again; you can't put a 'No Fly Zone' rule, because that would start WW3. This theme has been talked about repeatedly every single day for 19 days; since the Russian/Ukraine war started. How did these news anchors get to even be qualified to be on the news? I guess mentally retarded isn't a factor when it comes to be employed by ABC News.

Quick question, since NATO has no interest in fighting Russia head-on in a destructive war, can NATO countries use private military soldiers like how Russia uses the Wagner group to devastating effect in Libya and Central Africa? The US can arm the private soldiers, train them, and insert them into Ukraine. Technically it's not NATO getting involved, but it may help prevent Ukraine from becoming a new Russian Oblast.

Mr. Kirby, in the first few days of the attack, indicated in a group interview, tiring others describing how Ukraine was fighting back, that we were to understand that worse than the fighting then, would be the "Occupation." That told me that the US was reacting to this long-anticipated invasion, as an occupation, and a quick one, and we should all become used to it too. So, Mr. Kirby was incorrect. He floats ideas for the Administration, and that is what we should understand that he does. With video we can think it through, evidently more quickly than he can expound. I like Mr. Kirby; I am not sure he can take us forward from what we see on delayed tape.

  33. Bla bla bla…they should have given Ulraine anti missile defense. Even if Russia strike a NATO countey, there is no guarantee that NATO will defend its countries. So sad.

  34. This was a very informative interview. The take-home message seems to be that U.S. can help Ukraine to a certain limited extent, but not so much that we cross a red-line that leads to Russia escalating to nuclear weapons. I guess we also want to avoid Russia escalating to chemical or biological weapons, but it is really nuclear weapons that are fundamentally part of this calculation.

    So we can supply Ukraine with certain types of assistance, but we cannot directly supply them with fighter aircraft or direct involvement of U.S.military as in maintaining a no-fly zone.

    The red-line is presumably defined by Russia. We can do A, B, C . . . without crossing that red-line. But if we did something else that helped Ukraine to the point that it really threatened Russia's perception of their chance of success, then that "something else" would cross the red-line. So, by definition, we are constrained to do nothing that would "really" help Ukraine. We are allowed to help them limp along to their ultimate doom, but not to prevent them from ultimately being defeated.

    If the war is prolonged, then after a couple years one of the currently (ie, in 2022) "acceptable" A, B, C might become viewed as unacceptable, and Russia might deem that as crossing the red-line. If we offer help that just allows Ukraine to hang on, but not enough to actually defeat Russia, "hanging on" might be viewed as an escalating threat for a war that already has exceeded Putin's expectations by say several years.
