What a show! The acting, the cinematography , the costumes, the music, it was so fabulous that I am going to see it again. I shed a tear at the end, it was magical beautiful. Bravo to the entire cast and director.
I think it is most beautiful to show the diversity in Puerto Ricans. They are all shades. This movie was very true to it's nature. I feel the audience got some cultural education.
I enjoyed the original movie but when I watched it as a kid I didn’t understand what they were fighting about??? Even though I understood what racism was… because all I saw was white people on the screen fighting other white people on the screen🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️ Plus I didn’t understand that it was in the ghetto some of them wore lovely suits etc???? Didn’t get it

To see boriqua and morena representation, people who actually look black and mixed race playing Puerto Rican people is so powerful, it humanises us as Black and mixed race people of the African diaspora. There is an acknowledgement of LatinX history, European colonisers, indigenous people and the enslavement of west African people that it all really happened and that we are really real. It’s acknowledges the injustice of xenophobia and white supremacy and how it connects to today #representationmatters
Plus I like the grit he gave it, whilst having that Disney glow, hard to mash up those 2 things but Spielberg did it. hats off off 🔥🔥🔥

At 9 years of age, i loved West Side Story when it came out. Watched this original movie many times. I was floored by the wonderful performances, the unfolding of the story, everything….. i like this new version even better! It’s even more arresting and powerful! Wow.
