The Academy announced it will bar “King Richard” winner Will Smith from attending the Oscars for 10 years as punishment for slapping Chris Rock at last month’s ceremony.

Kinda not a punishment when you consider the fact the damage he's done to his reputation will stain him probably well past a decade, I dont imagine he'd have much reason to attend them anymore even if he could. Its sad to see what he's let his wife driven him to be. This wasn't about Chris' joke, this was Jada manipulating him to do her bidding and he did it to elevate himself above the men she has all these "entanglements" with. And of course she wasted no time throwing him under the bus when we all saw the clip of her laughing about the slap. He's ruined. Banning him is a moot point.

People are playing the "race card " now or comparing it to non related situations….but in some of those comparisons they are missing something…..this abuse….this bullying….this attack….this act of violence had witnesses…a few million in fact…..other actors have lost their careers based on accusations….no witnesses….and no tangible proof of any kind…..and in some cases decades old situations in a world of desperation and sex for success…..Smith is a crybaby narcissist and a bully….he has permanently damaged an already failing institution…but the fan base and the Academy are total hypocrites….he needs to be thrown out of AFTRA/SAG…..or at least banned from any union based jobs for the same ten years……great careers have been ruined over the so called " # ME TOO" witch hunt……some deserved it….some did not….but Smith will now get protection from the " race card " crowd….. when infact that was the very thing that saved him from being thrown out or arrested on the spot…..oh well….America has always looked the other way on black on black violence…….how's that for pulling out the " race card "……….

  10. Watch this clip of Ricky Gervais being hilarious but at times over the top with his jokes. Nobody punched him or anything… Cuz they know IT'S A JOKE! Damn… Some of these Hollywood types get to hoity toity and can't laugh at themselves anymore. Most do enjoy the jokes cuz they're not so above getting the obvious. When you have a comedian host any award show…. YOU GET JOKES, pointed at all of them. Jeez… We all get it, so what Will Smith did was unspeakable and he should get some jail time for showing the world how someone who has too much money and fame thinks they can get away with. I'm sorry but there's NO excuse. Thank God Chris Rock is a much bigger human being then Will Smith and handled the situation well. Yet… I think it's disgusting that the Oscars didn't put a lifetime ban on Will and not allow him to get any further nominations nor awards. And they SHOULD take back the one he got (while the audience and all applauded a man who assaulted someone right before their very eyes). It amazes me in a world where you can't say or do so many things for "political correctness", that Will Smith gets away with this act in front of millions of viewers and walks away with just a slap on the wrist. Very disturbing. And utterly not politically correct. I don't really care about all the political correctness, I care about humankind correctness.

  18. Far too lenient. Smith is a thug who should have been banned for life and had his Oscar win rescinded because he brought the Academy Awards into disrepute.

  23. The academy's actions further demonstrate Hollywood Hypocrisy. He should have been banned for life or pending anger management therapy 10 years later and deemed ineligible for all future awards. Imagine if any particular Professional slapped his or her colleague in the limelight: He or she would lose their practicing license immediately and forever. He committed a felony because his misdemeanor slap could have incited a riot in the building and sparked BLM riots in national viewing areas.

    As an African-American man, I am appalled and embarrassed that major black talking-head on Twitter, IG and here, on YouTube have taken this stance.

    Why?

    Because some are nothing more than pathetic clout-chasers, wanting the be the first. Wanting the be the idiotic voice of reason. Wanting to be the out spoken voice against the majority, knowing very well, had Will Smith suffered no consequences, they'd be on here claiming Will Smith should have been banned for at least 10 years!

    Now, do you see why 95% of predominantly black radio and tv shows have failed since Oprah's success?

    Racism had nothing to do with Will's ten year ban, it was Will's narcissistic behavior and mental illness that caused him to not only take 13 steps on stage, assault Chris Rock, walk back to his seat, then, shout profanities as if he was at a rap concert.

These people from the academy are a joke, if a person like you or me had hit someone, the California prosecutors would already be on top of you, this was an assault not only on Chris but also on the academy, you must defend him with all your might law, like any of us, just because he is a movie star? he is going to go unpunished and they must put will in jail and not give him special treatment.

He would not have slapped another stand up comedian if Chris were not black…let's say Sean Hayes if he delivered the same lines!! And comparing 10 year ban with others who were banned before does not make sense either…this assault took place on live television on Oscar stage for millions of people to see! So 10 year ban is perfect, was hoping a lifetime ban. So nobody, specially grown adults do not display such bully behaviors ever!

  32. I've seen elsewhere, like on Twitter, people screaming this is racism against Will Smith. To them I say, you're reaching. Take off your racism glasses. First of all, Smith himself has accepted this. He a grown man, although his actions say otherwise; but he can speak for himself. Behind closed doors he's probably already planning his return. Actors love returning to something after being away for awhile. In 10 years that will be the main topic: Will Smith Returns To The Oscars. And it will be all about him again. I refuse to feel sorry for these overpaid, overexposed celebrities when they cause their own problems.

  37. He should have had a ten year ban with no nominations for any movie he may have anything to do with….producer, director, actor, etc. along with no award show attendance. The Academy really did absolutely nothing. Will resigned – big deal. He could still be nominated. A star can make a lot of money when he’s been nominated. They should have made sure in some way his financial future would be compromised.

  44. Everyone acts like it is "racially" motivated, but if you slapped an employee at a theme park, they would ban you for life and prosecute you. Will Smith gets to back to his mansion and go about his life as very rich man, he will continue to make movies, he can watch the Oscars from home.
