Mustang 5.0 Clutch Job – Part One – Transmission Removal

In this video I bring you along as I start the process of replacing a clutch in a customer’s 1995 Ford Mustang with the big 5.0 302ci with almost 200hp! Seriously though I am just happy it is not all rotted out. In this first part we remove the exhaust and transmission to gain access to the worn out clutch.
-Enjoy!

  1. Hi Mr O this is the third mustang trans I’ve seen you do. You were working on one and someone needed you to help start another car off site. The second one was a clutch pedal that the computer said the clutch pedal wasn’t engaged. Now this one. That car died on the interstate. You figured out what went wrong. That was a real good job figuring what was wrong. The last person that played with the clutch and they touched something they shouldn’t have.

  2. Wish I'd have had the trans cap when I helped my college roommate change out the clutch in his '82 5.0 back in '89. My shirt was trashed because we manually lowered the trans and I had the rear end of it. Can't believe we actually made the car work again.

  3. I have probably 20-25 clutch jobs as a amateur mechanic. two wheel drive Toyota pickups seemed the easiest….. I could get the trans out in just under an hour, 15-20 min for cleanup, and about 45 minutes back together…..

  4. My son has a 2006 ford mustang with the 5.0 high output in it . The four speed transmission or the rear end gears are totally screwy . He can do 40 mph before it red lines in 1st gear. I’m dumb when it comes to the gearing would the gears in the resend need to be changed or the transmission ?

  5. You don’t have to replace everything. I would just ask the owner if they would want anything that was already apart replaced. My father always believed that if it isn’t broke then don’t fix it but if was a tedious job and it was already apart fix it now then to have to worry about it later.
