In a previous video https://youtu.be/MhaJg6RAQ-4 I replaced an externally leaking A/C compressor on this customer GMC Sonoma. Once the weather got warm outside the cold air stopped blowing on the inside. UhOh! Let’s see if we can find out why.
-Enjoy!

Wow young man I never understood one thing from start to finish but love your stuff . More please!
I am in the process right now of repairing an original had worked from day 1 when the vehicle rolled offed the dealers lot A/C system on a still nice 27 year old AWD Astro van.
I am replacing basically everything except for the evaporator (which will be flushed), including the compressor, condenser, drier, orifice tube and hoses along with all of the high and low pressure switches.
My reasoning though is I plan on driving this van another 15 years and I figure that the hoses and switches are also currently 27 years old and the condenser is of a design which cannot be flushed.
I am hoping that by going the extra mile and expense and by using what are considered high quality brand parts that this job will get done once and be forgotten about for many years into the future!
Another thing I am starting to see is when buying parts these vehicles are getting to the age that you are finding quite a few parts in the "manufacturer or distributor warehouse closeout" section with clearance pricing attached which I am starting to believe these vehicles are reaching the age or time frame where some what normally were east to source parts may be more difficult to find going into the future.
The A/C hose assembly for my Astro was one of these parts in that classification at the vendor I purchased from.
So it may not be as easy to just figure on some things I will just wait for it to fail instead of going ahead and replacing when doing the job on that system at the current time.
I couldn't agree more! Why change parts unnecessarily, until they give you a reason to change them. I always tell my customers, that repairing their AC today, doesn't mean that something else won't fail next week or next month. I can only diagnose and repair what has failed now.
it was a metric adjustable wrench, (lol) but is it left-handed or right-handed?
I appreciate your resistance to using the parts cannon.
Responding from a different video I don't feel like finding it changing the charcoal canister talking about fluid film it's not a miniature computer in your back pocket it is a plastic library 💥💥🍔🍻🐿️
😂😅😂 "metric adjustable wrench" you made me laugh. I don't own a crescent wrench but after 40 years think I want to.
U did absolutly right Eric!! ANY REAL MECHANICS know u dont mess with whats not broken. Especially on a OLD vehicle. Anyone who suggested otherwise is a idiot or NOT a real mechanic.
a neighbor started mowing when it stopped on the video … I almost didn't notice the difference :p
I replaced the compressor on my 2002 GMC Sonoma after not having AC for a few years. Of course a few months later one of the AC hoses started leaking… probably from not being pressurized for a few years and then all of a sudden being under pressure. Anyway I replaced the accumulator and hoses and now it’s good to go. Thankfully the compressor on mine didn’t fail catastrophically originally either so I didn’t have to touch the condenser or evaporator.
I wouldn’t want my mechanic to just order parts that aren’t broken, all things are on the way to breakdown, the idea is to get all the working time out of them. The exception to that rule is in the military we replace items known to breakdown! Pms (planned maintenance system) before hand so if we are needed to respond, then we are at full readiness.
You don’t have to play that game with your a/c in your car.
Ticks me off that all of this crap💩comes from china. Especially those junk screws that always strip out
I feel your frustration. It sucks the fact that you feel like you have to justify your actions, hopefully you won’t stop making videos because of that.
It is similar when they give me an appearance at work and you’re trying to teach them something and they’re trying to tell you how to do your job, which by the way, you’re been doing for years.
Thank you for your videos and don’t let the negative comments get to you.
I wish house HVAC companies had Eric's approach. I have a number of rental townhouses and never had an HVAC repair performed on my system. They always replace the whole damn thing for $10,000 to $15,000
THE ONLY RUST FREE THING IN O TOWN(THAT LAWN MOWER)
The lawnmower running in the background reminds me of episodes of the Sopranos, when the were home in the summer, there was always a lawnmower in the background. Once somebody pointed it out to me, it became a running joke.
Some of these critics should stick their opinions where the sun don't shine
Always a treat to see a stickshift. Two of my cars are manual. One's a '98, one's a '69.
i suspect ‘come backs’ are frequent with this guy.
Scanner Danner doesn’t hold a candle next to Mr. Eric. You keep doing what you do because your miles ahead. LOL
My neighbor just came over and asked if I could look at their thermostats in their house, because I “fix stuff” they put new batteries in the display, but it wasn’t working. I went over and found some “green death” on the battery terminals. Thanks to south main auto I knew what to do. Test batteries, and clean parts! Now it’s working, and I look like a smarty pants!
The AC on my 21-year-old Pontiac Vibe fails once a year due to a slow leak. It's actually cheaper to just recharge it every spring
Eric's sarcasm is always 'on point'! That's pretty mush why i am a subscriber. LOL
I replaced the orifice tube on my 97s10 when I bought a new compressor, because of warranty. The parts store won't warranty it without it
KG to PSI? KG measures mass. PSI measures pressure. There is no conversion between different units of measure. At time marker 10:10 in the video.
"If I had a crystal ball, I wouldn't be working in my shop." I am not 100% convinced that is true. You may work fewer hours, but it's hard to imagine you giving up wrenching for good.
8:30 is that a Chevy Volt I see? Is that in for a repair?
