  1. I was reminded of this video recently. Friday, December 23, 2020. 730PM we lost power and I did not expect to be out for 25 hours on the coldest days of the year where it was down below zero. I purchased a 3000 PSW inverter definitely thinking I made the wrong decision with how expensive it was 4 months earlier to upgrade the previous 700w PSW inverter that was in my car and it hadn't fully been transferred to my new cargo van. So when morning came and we were still out I decided to charge up the batteries I used during the night for some basic stuff Internet lights so I went for the jumper cables. from the hood into the cargo area to the inverter to the extension cord into the house, I ran for a few hours Saturday and switched to a different vehicle a 3rd of the way through. it was enough to cool down the refrigerator which was probably warmer than the outside or inside and charge up the batteries from the night before. then I'm sitting in the living room waiting for the refrigerator to cool down ( if you leave it closed it keeps the cold in, it's amazing you can go for a few days on your freezer and a few hours on your refrigerator. look it up). when I was waiting for it to shut off, my dad decide to use the microwave! Granted we haven't eaten much because …electric stove, and somebody not keeping the woodstove and fireplace running all night. we got down to about 45 but maintained 50°F most of the time. Our pipes didn't freeze although being on a shared well nobody in the development had water and there were some water issues the next day when they finally did turn us back on as almost last 100 customers. They were saying clear into Tuesday, thank goodness not.

I had this planned in my back pocket for a while but wasn't expecting to need it so soon. Yes yes that 3000W inverter which I should've gotten originally two years ago before the price went up twice, totally paid for itself! I recommend putting the money into a decent small inverter and a good big inverter don't bother with MSW too much. You get way more efficiency at the expense of no load current draw which actually equals better run time and equipment operations.
My original 750W MSW was not able to run a saw Zaw, when I upgraded to the 700W PSW I was able to run the more powerful one and a fan at the same time!

This isn't really anything coming from Snow country NY it's be annoying and chili but that's what blankets are for! Nothing compared to the year that we couldn't afford and with one dollar over assistance for heating oil, we put sheets up and lived in the kitchen next to the woodstove.

  2. We were similarly averaging about 1/2 gallon of gas per hour on our whole house, 10,000 Watt system throughout the five or six days post-Ian until the power was sort of restored. People tend to overlook the value of inverters, not realizing they have a potential power source parked in their driveway. As Ray showed us, hurricanes tend to teach you a whole lot about electrical engineering. Fortunately, we had cool weather post-Ian. No A/C needed. It's usually the opposite after a storm.

  3. As a Brit can I just say WOAH look at all that room !! … I would love to live in that much green space ..
Anywho glad there wasn't too much damage and wishing you all the best ..

  4. Maybe time to invest in a diesel generator that can tap into your 90gal tank on the truck so you don’t have to use the truck with inverters

  5. Hi ray heard your young one singing bah bah black sheep, here in U.K ,they have changed it to rainbow sheep as they say its "politically correct". whats the world comming to when they mess with nursary rimes.take care all .

  6. With luck, most of the areas that aren't flooded should have commercial power back within the week. Unlike us after Andrew where it was 5 weeks on generators. Because just about every power pole was snapped off at ground level. The pole in front of our house is the same one that was put in when our house was built. It had the top foot of it cut off so that they could put a new insulator on it but it still stands with the same lean after 30 years

  7. Thank you for sharing. Your firsthand view of the conditions is better than the news to me.
I live in Indiana. Many years ago we were without power for 7 days due to an ice storm. My very young daughter and I fared better than most.

  8. Good day Ray, just to say what a great job you did at home before and during the hurricane. Glad that you and your family came through it ok. Best wishes.🇦🇺

  9. Glad to see you and your family doing okay there right we love watching all your mechanical knowledge on your shop that what matters more is how you and your family is doing if you cannot replace them it is nice to see that you're up and about , my sister has property in West Palm Beach I don't know how it survived been trying to get in touch with her and I can't well good luck Ray I hope everything will work out fine .
I love to see the chickens and they survived as well that's fantastic .

  10. Raymond, shame on me , for not watching the video to the end before I was to comment.

You hit home with flying the Union Jack on your Mailbox.
Your action demonstrated American grit in the face of adversity.
BTW, thumbs up on the 6.6 vs Fjord 6.7
FWIW, I'd have opted for a Cummins

  11. Ray, I have a public service idea.
Form a bucket brigade between Florida and Kommiefornia, to assist Florida in their flooding, and Kommiefornia in the drought
    Sound like a plan, brother?

  12. You are around us, We are at 675 and 70, we took the eye wall for hours and hours. Our neighborhood looks like a bomb went off. Glad you and your family are OK. We got power back Friday mid day. Hope they got you back up too!.

  13. Did you say that water is usually 30 ft down? I'm pretty sure that is what you said because omg that's nuts God bless everyone who was affected by the hurricane!

  14. Well Ray, it looks like you and yours have come through the worst of it without any major disasters. I'm sure a lot of that is down to your preparations and your skills, both in life and mechanical, will get you through the remaining headaches.
Glad the chickens are all OK too, even if their home is somewhat modified.👍😁

  15. All I'm going so say is Ray, you're raising that little girl right. Or am I the only one who noticed she went mudding in a power wheels? lol. Nice to see you and your family safe and in good spirits after this mess. Keep your chin up, you all deserve it.

  16. Hey did you know when DeSatan-ist was a FL Congressman he REFUSED to approve funds for the Northeast rebuilding and repairs after Super Storm Sandy. This wasn't the only Sandy-related bill that DeSantis voted against in Jan. 2013. On Jan. 15, 2013, he also voted against H.R. 152, which added "supplemental appropriations" to the year's budget to "improve and streamline disaster assistance for Hurricane Sandy."

Hey gov, maybe turn about is fair play?????????

  17. actually most cars make better generators as they have decent cooling and fuel supply, you should have an AC system integrated in every truck. Lucky you don't ha a Tesla!
