Toyota Sienna AWD – Rear Viscous Coupler

In this video I have a look at a customer’s 2011 Toyota Sienna AWD that has the infamous howling from the rear viscous coupler. If you go to Toyota they want you to replace the entire coupler, and that job can cost close to $2000!! Seems silly for a simple bad bearing. Let’s save this customer a few bucks.
-Enjoy!

  1. Question for any mechanics here, how would you/Eric find unlisted PN's like this bearing when no breakdown exploded/parts diagram etc. is avaliable ? I suspect you'd have to be buddies with the parts guy……"shoulda been a parts guy!"

  2. Very great video just a comment when you’re done using the RTV or the great sealer you can put a little masking tape over the tip and it will keep it fresh thank you very much

  3. Not true

I bought mine the vicious coupler whole unit on ebay for 536

No issues installing it and way better than just charging the bearing

    Ps
I believe I dint see the small washer thats installed in the middle

  4. enjoyed….you know other than the impact tools…..you remind me of all the jobs i did in the 60s…..come home from a friday nite cruise and pull the tranny to replace a syncro …..carefully!

  5. Now Now Eric, you know why we need all wheel drive in Florida? Other than running up and down the beach, we need it also for the extra handling for the winter months when all the snow birds from up north come south. Like the ones from New York and New Jersey……lol great video Brother keep them rolling. You guy's are great.

  6. In order to prolong the life of that tube of silicone, and super glue BTW. Store it in an air tight container. I store my super glue in an old prescription bottle. It's stayed good now for 2 years. Yes, a cheap little tube of super glue is still usable and not dried up hard after 2 yrs. I shit you not. It should apply to any product that hardens after exposure to air.

  7. Is that the same job on a highlander? My sisters 2019 highlander is havingva tranning acceleration noise thats bothering sounds like this… weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
