As a European, I completely agree with Pritzker that present actions are Hitler-like, but he has totally missed what started it, because it's normalised even for him — what the US has done for generations, but has been effectively banned in Europe since the days of the Hitler Youth — brainwashing children with a daily pledge of allegiance.

   I believe that most people who use "affirmations" claim that if an adult states their desired situation, eg "I enjoy my work" 100 times, that is usually enough to make it come true. But US schoolchildren, in their formative years, recite about 1,500 times that their country is "indivisible, with liberty and justice for all", and even decades later as adults, they are likely to need lengthy counselling to change that belief. Until then, even if they have doubts, they will not want to cause a division by claiming some government action is illiberal or unjust — after all, that cannot be so. The country is liberal and just, so it must be themselves that are wrong, and they must therefore wait patiently until they can understand better, and can see the liberality and justice again.

   And that, I believe, is why there are not huge riots in the US at present — there was a small riot in the UK when a regressive tax was brought in by the Wicked Witch (when she died, we got this song to no. 2 in the charts — I'm not sure if it was this exact version, because the radio stations that I listened to refused to play it in full and I didn't know how to buy music online https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPIdRJlzERo). Tariffs are effectively regressive taxes, but Agent Orange (every living thing shrivels when he touches it) has done many other, and worse, things — his anti-anti-climate change work will kill the most people over a long period, and his removed of foreign aid is expected to kill millions. Yet the response of most US citizens is at most to go to a peaceful rally, then go home and wait for others to sort it out for them.

   If even half of Democrats boycotted all Republican-owned (or managed) businesses, the Republicans in Congress would have him out of office by the end of 2025, not merely neutered by end of 2026 IF he allows fair elections to take place. Many of us in Europe and the Commonwealth of Nations (which between them account for over 25% of the world's population) are boycotting all US products and travel, except for things like YouTube which are free, because a plurality of the US electorate voted for a fascist dictator, when over 45,000,000 of our parents and grandparents — more than the whole state of California, and more than 100 x the US casualties — died in WWII, a war to remove fascist dictators worldwide (Hitler did intend to annexe the US). When has any US politician thanked us for that? And yet none of that US electorate appears willing to boycott businesses in order to get Congress to act to remove Orange from office. The brainwashing was too strong, and they are too lily-livered to beat it.

   (I have written at length elsewhere about the US contribution to WWII, but here are the main facts of how it would never have happened except for US Presidents' cack-handed (lack of) diplomacy, and how European countries had prevented Germany from annexing the US even before the latter entered the war.

   * Japan decided to become strong and take over the Far-East parts of the UK, French & UK empires due to being stung by President Wilson's racism on the committee at Versailles in 1919 deciding reparations for WWI (as chairman, he overruled a committee decision to award Japan reparations on the same basis as France, saying that Japanese were not white, and it would be against natural order to treat them as well as whites).

   * Germany suffered hugely from the Great Depression, which was largely caused by Truman's tariffing the world (which, unlike now, did not understand how to withstand that, and so tariffed each other too). This was made worse when Truman stopped the foreign aid which had helped Germany to pay the reparations. The country's penury created the conditions where Hitler could be elected, with his call of (paraphrased) Make Germany Great Again, before cancelling elections and ruling as a dictator.

   * Therefore, the US was almost single-handedly responsible for causing WWII.

   * No one denies that the US Lend-Lease program was essential to winning the war, as the largest Allies (China, Russia and the UK) had already been effectively bankrupted, and could not have fought on after 1942 without buying materiel and food on credit. However, that was a commercial transaction, not an input to the war, and for that, the US became the most industrialised nation, and stayed rich until 2006, when the final loans (including some from WWI) were repaid, while China, Russia and, to a lesser extent, the UK remained poor.

   * However US armed forces, once they finally arrived, were a nice-to-have, rather than essential. They formed less than 20% of the total forces, and at no time did they account for more than 50% of Allied personnel in either theatre.

   * In Europe, before the US arrived, the UK had beaten the Germans on and in the sea — our blockade of ports available to Germany had reduced coal supplies to the point that their surface ships had to be kept in port, while our decoding of the Enigma cyphers allowed us to keep their submarine force in check — ie ships were being lost at a slower pace than others were being constructed.

   * In Europe, the UK (helped by the Free-Polish, Canadians and others) had tamed the German air force during the Battle of Britain — they were down to one third their original strength in terms of available aircraft, while due to the efficiency of UK manufacturers, we had more planes than we started with. The Germans never regained their initial strength.

   * In Europe, Hitler had intended to beat the UK to obtain our navy (then largest in the world) and our merchant navy (by far the largest, with a third of the worlds tonnage) because he would need both, in order to invade the US, which he seems to have planned for 1942, but he had to break off his attempt to beat the UK because of lack of coal, oil and food, which he decided to obtain from Russia (oil) and Ukraine (coal and grain). They marched on Moscow, with their supplies following by horse and cart due to lack of fuel.

   * In Europe, the Soviet Union, although suffering appalling losses, had just begun to force Germany's two armies back before the US entered the war. Indeed, it is arguable that the US only prioritised the European theatre over the Pacific because they were determined not to let communists learn

Germany's nuclear bomb technology (refugee German Jews had continued their previous research after settling in the UK, and quickly found that the US, in its research, had been wrong to think a nuclear bomb would be impracticably big, and in fact it need not weigh more than a few kg; it was assumed the Germans had therefore found the same, though in fact, they had made the same mistake as the US and had given up) or
   2. their rocketry technology (the US knew the Germans led the world, because the US's premier rocketry professor Robert H Goddard, had been helping them, until they surpassed his knowledge).

   * Truman, hearing that Goddard was dying, took his advice in choosing his successor. As VE Day approached, he commanded that, notwithstanding that he had been responsible for killing 12,000 Jews and others, who had died of starvation and overwork on his missile assembly line, Wernher von Braun and his team leaders were to be extracted from Germany/Austria, along with 14 tons (!) of drawings and specifications. Even after they had designed the US's first nuclear ICBMs, the US refused to allow them to be brought to justice, but kept them on to design the Saturn V rockets which boosted astronauts to the moon.

   * In the Pacific, once the Allies turned to that in 1945, the Chinese had been weakening the Japanese forces for 13 years, starting in 1932, and buoyed by Lend-Lease materiel had carried on. and were close to pushing the Japanese out of China. Meanwhile, the Indian Army (including the Gurkhas and assisted by the West African Army) had started pushing the Japanese out of India, and by VJ Day, they had chased them 3,000 miles, all the way to Singapore. Similarly, Australia had prevented the Japanese from getting further south than New Guinea, and had begun pushing them back.

   So while we thanked the US services for their help, the fact is that Europeans, Commonwealth countries, China and a few others sacrificed 100 times more for the US than the US did for us, in a war the US caused, and AFAIK they have never apologised or thanked us.)

14. I am a member of a religion which teaches us to cooperate with government direction except for when it asks us to violate God's command, like kill the enemy. Our young men are advised to fill out their draft registration, We all must obey government direction like evacuate from dangerous areas, pay taxes, take vaccines, etc., up to where they cross God's law.
    To that end, perhaps the National Guard, if they feel going to go into an American city is an illegal act, they might show up prepared to go (uniform, kit, etc) and show up to the point of embarkation, but not be loaded up in transport, or go to the targeted city but stand in a respectful "parade reast" and do not advance into the city to interfere with the citizens or police.. They are obeying as far as they feel is legal, but not doing what is illegal,or a bad faith command.
    The same way an employee. Might do what his boss asks, like showing up on time, work a full day, get along with fellow employees, but refuse to help him embezzle from the company.

24. I don't know how many times I have to say this, but I will anyway – RUMP is trying to incite violence from US citizens in democratically controlled cities. Why? So he can declare some twisted form of martial law, so he, and the MAGA-GOP, can stay in power indefinitely. It would suspend ALL elections until further notice, suspend all of our Constitutional rights allowing his regime to arrest ANYONE they see as a threat without ANY form of due process whatsoever, and it would allow them to create and pass ANY new laws without going through Congress. It would also allow them to take over ANY businesses THEY deem as a threat to National Security, domestically owned or foreign owned. It would also allow ANYONE to be deported, citizen or not, and to create concentration camps like the one he's running in Florida. This is the biggest threat to this country since it's founding, and would turn this country into a North Korean-type State of dysfunction run by criminals. This fascist dictatorship threat is very real, because it's the ONLY way that criminal RUMP and his criminal organization can stay in power, period. They've realized that they can't commit enough election fraud this time to be able to stay in power, so this is their only option, and it looks like they've already begun to execute it even without any violence by citizens, by falsely claiming that crime in these democratic cities are out of control, which is nothing but ONE GIGANTIC LIE!
