IN this video I repair a customer’s 2010 Ford Escape that came with a complaint of a loud squealing noise coming from under the hood and a lil smoke when it started. Turns out the water pump was locked right up! But all of a sudden it would start working and be fine for a while. Let’s get after it!

I did this job on a 2011 Escape, plus a thermostat and thermostat housing. I had a HECK of a time trying to get the system to bleed. I ended up removing and filling the system through the upper hose; that was the only way.
Love the 3.0. Got one in a '11 Fusion at 291k and still running strong. Transmission however…..leaks like a sieve. LOL
What was the tester you were clicking to check the water pump
Any video is great from you
25:30 Yes Eric, electricity flows negative to Positive. Maybe you could educate your viewers?
Them little bolts were notorious for snapping off I hate those little 8 mil
You definitely had too much caffeine lol
Well done, that was a positively autistic level of care you took with positioning things. The car show judges will be pleased.
What preventive measures would you recommend to avoid water pump failures in the future?
Very informative video, as always – especially the zip tie trick.
My brother had a Duratec 30 in his Mazda 6 – boy what a POS that car was. A friend of mine has one of these Escapes (08) with the 2.3 and a stickshift, just like the customer in another one of your videos (the guy that rebuilt the engine and forgot to put the springs in the coil boots). Nice work!
2011 Ford 3.5l has the water pump………..inside the timing cover! Run by the timing chains! Sister inlaws pump went out and dumped hot coolant right into the oil pan!
So who is this Uncle Bob guy you always mention? (You know, your mother's brother)
My cousin was driving across Canada in the late 70’s in a VW Beatle. He was 40 miles from nowhere when the engine quit. He opened the bonnet just in time to see the ignition coil barf up its innards. In three hours , one car drove by, the old guy stopped and and after checking said he might have a coil in his junk at home. So they went to his house, but no luck. So he drove them to a small town 30 more miles away, drove to the auto parts store owners house to get the keys to the store and got a new coil. It was getting late so he took them home and fed them a great dinner and a bedroom for the night.
The next day after breakfast they went back to the car and got it fixed. So my cousin tried to give the old timer a $100 for his troubles. He resisted but eventually took it. When my cousin got home he looked in the coil box for the receipt, and there was the $100.
I was waiting for you to realize you didn’t have the battery in it when you were going to try and bump the starter. Of course I’ve never done that, lol, not! Better than doing the one that’s in the timing chain cover.
Too bad they don't make a magnetic camera mount. We could be right in the engine bay with ya…..
“Good luck sleeping !†Classic Eric O.
Love it as always 🎉
As soon as that air ratchet came out I was out of here, most annoying sound to hear wearing headphones 😂
Really? Water pump is on the flywheel side of that engine and belt driven? Crazy. Looks easy enough to change and its not mounted behind the front cover like the 3.5 and 3.7 Cyclone front drive engines.
HONK!
I just bought a 2000 Toyota 4Runner. 250K miles, still has the original timing belt, tensioner, crank/cam bearings and water pump. I'm replacing them soon, although it has no issues. I inspected the belt and it's more cracked out than Tyrone Biggums. Toyota/Japan parts are built tougher than Ford Tough.
I'm thinking those pump bearings failed because there was too much force from the belt. But what do I know? What I want to know is what's turning the pulley that drives the belt, 'cause it don't look like it's on the crankshaft…
Never had a water pump lock up but the alternator locked up on my '07 Grand Cherokee 5.7. Shoulda paid more attention to the little whining noise I was hearing for a while. First the battery light came on, then one by one things quit working luckily when the engine stalled I was able to turn into a local marina and wrestle it into a parking place. Replaced the alternator and all good. What I learned was before a long trip, I take off the serp belt and spin all the pulleys to see if anything else is about to lock up!
Also had that happen on my parent's '75 Olds years ago, AC clutch locked up, smoked the belt, I had to pull over and cut the dang belt off.
How does stretch to fit belts not wipe out bearings from being so tight?🤔
I miss the old Duratec engines. This ecoboost crap is for the birds
I fought (and won) a fight with GM on my '99 Tahoe. Threw a bearing in my transfer case within warranty. Took it in and they said "Gotta order parts, it's going to be a while". I said "hey, I drive like 500~600 miles a week, and if this takes 2 or 3 weeks to get the parts I'm going to be out of warranty. Guy says "NO PROBLEM"…wrote everything up, shows the mileage, etc. Sure enough, 4 weeks go by, get the call to bring it in….guy says "Hey, out of warranty, here's your $6500 bill". Ummm…NOPE. Ended up fighting with the service manager for about 20 minutes and finally said "Let's see what your boss thinks, and my sales guy says, BTW: He's the owners son". Funny how fast they covered the warranty work.
Super Start? She's got a Go Handle!
Eric O got Auto OCD lol
@12:19 – when you were talking about the Suburban towed in. It sounds like the Fuel Pump Module that has been failing at a high rate. Any chance that one made it as a video ?
These duratec V6's were somewhat odd with their water pumps mounted up high and driven off a cam, but it was definitely a doable job for a lot of shadetree mechanics. Ford must have gotten wise to this because the replacement for the duratec buried the water pump inside the engine so deep that if it leaks, it will leak coolant right into the oil sump. I'm sure some engineer gave himself a big pat on the back with their mechanical tetris prowess without giving a single thought as to what happens to an engine when a bunch of coolant starts dumping into the oil pan. Or they did think about it, but didn't give a hoot because the risk of a pump failure in warranty was very low.
That engineer would later go on to design the wet belt oil pumps of the tiny ecoboost motors, probably.
shoulda looked at the bladdes oin the old pump ,woulda told ya which way it turns.
Eric O
For the love of GAWD
Please use more 1/4 drive air tools, it’s the new WD40😂
(I’m currently watching the 15 GMC video) 🫡🇺🇸
Why memory isn't saved as option in cars is beyond me
you can do it that way when the engine is plastic. I was shocked to see a plastic oil pan on a 2025 truck.
Those clamps will twang you like a 5th grade bully hahaha
As a Sears qualified auto service dispatch writer, back in the day, we called those battery post washers, "copro"
Josh bump the key? I thought that was Mrs O’s job. 😉
3.0 noisy. Check oil?
ford parts only
